for those that use the remote start, just a reminder that if you remote start via the app, you are limited to "2" remote starts.

the only way to reset this is open a door.

yeah thats gonna be a problem during our cold snaps in ND. right now it like -6F ambient and thats the high today.

the wife will not be happy if that the case in the long run. might have to actually break down and get a 3rd party remote start (prob drone)

edit: i wanted to add, the 11hrs ago remote start was to charge/warm the battery last night since it sat about 24 hrs prior to that without a decent run in our single digit temps the last day.

its sits outside since it doesnt fit in the garage. the 15 mins ago was the wife doing a remote start before work.

These days I don't even use the remote start even once that often. The seat heaters and steering wheel heater are so good that is all I need until the coolant gets up to temp as I drive for the heater to work. But then, I live in the mid-Atlantic, not nodak! ;-)

@nodak67 I see your wives truck daily, I work over in that area. I refuse to pay the $15 especially this winter, looks like "cold" temps are short lived. Luckily we have heated garage for both vehicles. If we are going somewhere we just take the Explorer its 5 years old and still the Ford Pass app is Complimentary.

You don't need the subscription for remote start. You can do it with your FOB. I believe it has the same 10 minute limit, though.

Yes, but it is lame. The range is terrible and there is no feedback, unless you can see the vehicle. I am still waiting for Accessorides to list a 2023 application for a real long range 2-way PnP remote start. They have a 2022 listing but won't say if it will also work for 2023.

Edit... I stand corrected... they recently updated the listing to include 2023 and 2024!

The range on my FOB remote start is adequate for my needs. I doubt I'd ever use it, if I couldn't see my truck to confirm it started. Actually, my truck is garaged 90% of the time, so I rarely use remote start anyway. I was just pointing out the often repeated misconception that you need the subscription for remote start.

Can you share the PN? What is the range increase?

Claimed range is 3000', pretty much like older Cliffords, Vipers and such. I put one of those in my Tacoma and loved it. This would be fine if it is anything close to the claim. eddiefromcali here has one and likes it. And the engine will not shut down when you unlock and open the door.

Install apparently requires that a couple of t-harnesses be installed under the dash on electrical panel plugs and tapping one wire and cutting one wire. I really need to see the directions, but this is way less invasive than doing those old school systems.

These aren't cheap, equal to 2 or 3 years of Toyota subscription.

at the house the fob is great, but when she is at work, the distance is too far to remote start with a fob. plus the building is like a faraday cage, she can barely get a decent cell signal.

we have looked into a drone mobile but they wan $700 for the install and then you add another $370 for a 5 yr plan and its pushing way past what the toyota $15 month across 5yrs roi. its cheaper to run the toyota app as long as we dont keep the truck more than 7yrs.

also to add, we can turn off the montly sub probably on the toyota app, so the roi skews more toward the toyota app vs the drone install during the summer where its not needed as much.
