Has anyone successfully installed the Toytec shackles for a 1.5" rear lift on a 3rd Gen with TRD dual exhaust? The Bilstein and Toytec website mentioned that if you have the TRD dual exhaust, some modification need to be done. If so, does anyone know what these modification are? Thanks.

I have and so far so good. The pic is at 1" setting but i had to go higher because the airbag cradles were preloading the airbags (due to their thickness) and making the rear stiff even with only 5 psi. The shackles gave me 2" in the rear, not 1 1/2" for some reason.

@Nm6300'asl : Thanks for the reply.. so the springs clear the exhaust pipes on both sides pretty good? Do you have any pics of that clearance. TIA

Got tires after and on the lift at full droop with space between the airbags and cradles, I still had clearance between pipes and leafs.

Shackles wont change the ride by themselves, the ride is VERY smooth and controlled with the 6112-5160 combo, the rear is a little stiff on big hits with the airbags and cradles.

It's only an issue at full droop. The bigger shackles push the leafs downward and can make contact with the tailpipes.

I never had any issues when I ran CB shackles and the TRD duals and I wheel a good amount

This will be very close to what I'd like to do before we start towing our trailer. Currently have the TRD pro suspension with the TRD sway. You mentioned that you needed to use the higher setting as the 1" made the ride rough due to the pre-load on the airbags. My question is, what brand of bags did you use? Firestone/Air lift? Wondering if one or the other would still cause the issue. I think my truck will have too much rake if I go to the higher setting (my front is level maybe 2-2.5").

Reading reviews on both bags seems like everyone is happy with their purchase. I have read if I went with the firestone I may have to do some modification due to the TRD sway bar (that was from Toytec sales rep).

    TIA,

I got the firestone bags, the issue was the daystar cradles, they are pretty thick 1/2-3/4". So it was like I was preloading the airbags (think spacer lift), lucky for me the 6112's gave me more lift in front (3 1/4") so I was able to use the higher setting on shackle and have a nice 1/2" rake

Forgot to ask, did you get the bushing as well or did you re-use the stock bushing? Not sure if you need a special tool to get the bushing out or not... if so I'd likely just re-use stock. Be interested in what you did.

    Thanks,

Yes I did the 1/2 poly kit, used a ball joint press rented from autozone, was a pain but worked good. An air hammer would make short work of it.

I ordered my Toytec shackles and looks like they will be coming in this weekend. After searching on youtube on removing leaf spring bushings... they all had the leaf springs removed from the vehicle. And it didn't look like fun... Were you able to remove the bushing with the leaf still on the truck with the ball press? My truck is less than 5 months old so it should not be corroded like some of the videos I've watched. And I'm assuming nothing on the stock bushing is re-used as the Toytec bushing should replace it.

I also watched CB's video on removing and installing shackles. That part is in my wheelhouse and just looks to be a little time consuming with the right tools.

    Thanks,

Yes, leafs still on truck just unbolted at shackle. Even tho my and your trucks were still 'new' i would start spraying some penetrating oil around the leaf eye and bushing to help it pop out. With the ball joint press I rented i could only press them out 1/2 way then had to chisel and hammer the rest of the way. I did it in my dirt driveway with hand tools, 1 trick I used was even with the rear jacked up (bottle jack under receiver) I couldnt line up the shackle and leaf eye. Used the oem jack between leaf and frame to align the bolt hole. Nothing from stock bushing is retained, beat the hell out of it if you have to. Lube the poly bushings and leaf eyes well. Shouldnt take more than 2-3 hours.

got my Toytec shackles yesterday. Will try and do this mid week. I got the "super lube" (called Toytec and asked what type of grease they suggest) and I also called Advanced Autoparts to see about renting the ball press (they do...for free too..).

I used my free maintenance to get my tires rotated Saturday and asked about the torque specs for the bolts. They told me 77 ft/lbs. However, Coachbuilder has a great youtube video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmJ6Xjjtpe8&t=10s

    at 8:22 he says 90 ft/lbs

What torque spec did you use?

    Thanks,

I didnt torque the shackles, by feel. The locknuts were dam hard too turn before snug, not sure about an accurate reading.

Got my lift and shackles put on over the weekend. Couldn't put the TRD Sway bar back on. The guy at my tire shop mentioned that the springs are in the way. I have the shackles maxed out at 1.5". Any ideas of how I can get rear sway bar back on? Haven't tried it yet, but seen people put the brackets facing from front to back vs. top down. Would this clear the springs? Heres the truck before and after. thx.IMG_5534.jpgIMG_5508.jpg IMG_5599.jpgIMG_5555.jpg

I had the same issue with my shackles set at 1". We rotated the sway bar bracket to the back of the axle and had to grind off some of the bead weld to get the bracket closer to the axle so that there was enough thread for the bolt.

Top setting. 285/70/18 Nitto Ridge grapplers absolutely no rubbing on full turns. Better then stock ride IMO. Quiet and handles nice.
