I have a 2015 TRD Pro with 150k miles. The TC leaks from the output shaft and it looks like on these TC's you need to split it to fix that. The original owner was obviously pretty hard on the vehicle and if I'm taking out the TC anyway, I'd like to replace anything else that may be worn. bearings, seals, chain ect.

Has anyone split a case open and replaced stuff? I'm trying to decide if I should do it myself or just buy one online like this site https://automotix.net/usedautoparts...es=868c02d9403ba12a37a3d72c0f165203&seq_num=2

    Looking for guidance!

I can't imagine that it would be too difficult to split a transfer case. The question is what else will you find wrong in there if the previous owner was so abusive? The rebuilt ones don't look to be too expensive.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. And the cost of a low mileage used case is not a whole lot more than a rebuild kit for the one I have. That's why I'm curious if anyone has experience there

It depends how much your time is worth. Considering this project looks like a labor of love I would rebuild. You know you want to.

If you do split the cases, take some pics of the internals for us.

You can always take the TC out, open it up and then decide then?

I worked with my uncle to take the TC out of mine (identical truck to yours). Taking it out and putting it back isn't that hard with two people, even without the truck being up on a lift. Not sure what would be involved to repair the innards of a TC though.

That's true, I would just have to consider the time it would be undrivable while waiting for parts

I'm in the rebuild camp myself. I'm done buying used drivetrain parts. Just installed one on my chevy to find the chain is stretched and the yard doesn't want to warranty it. So now I'm in the process of rebuilding my original. I'm sure it'd be cheaper than a used unit if you pulled and took to a mechanic to rebuild if you didn't want to do it.
