To everyone that’s had the tank installed or might now what the problem might be. I had a company do the install that transferflow recommended on their website.

Truck ran perfect before the install it’s a flex fuel, job was supposed to be 3 hours long took 10 because they couldn’t get the truck to start. They tried to get on the phone with transferflow customers support and finally did but they wasn’t very helpful they said.

I jump up in the truck and turned the key about 10 times over but didn’t start it until the eleventh time , truck started up but was running ruff. Let run for about a couple minutes and then it was running like a top.

went for a test drive and when you would Hit the gas the truck would almost die. After feathering the gas pedal why sitting in park it finally started running smooth again. There was about 20 gallons in the tank then so I don’t think that was the issue but drove down to the gas station to top off. Filled up to the first click and got in the truck and it started right up. Started to leave the gas station and the sputtering started again. Sat there for about 10 minutes feathering the skinny pedal again in park and then it comes back to life. Well by then it’s 9 at night and I still have a 2 hour drive back home so I headed home. The only problem I would have on the way back was when I hit the gas pedal to get on it, it would bog down a bit around 50mph and when it fought through to about 60mph it was normal again. It would only do that at hard Accelerations.

well I made it home and the next day I went to drive around and it would still bog down around the same mph when accelerating. I called the people that installed it and they didn’t really know what to do. So I crawled underneath the truck to check and make sure all the hoses were tight and went where they was supposed to go by looking at the directions. Everything seemed good. So I called transferflow and they told be to check everything and I told them I did and they was kinda at a loss. He said to check the fuel lines and I did that everything seemed good there. And then they had me take pictures of everything and email them to them. They emailed me back and said everything looked good to. They said they would get back to me. Never did. I had to call them back and they still didn’t have a answer on what to do.

So I took it to toyota for them to look at it and they said the alcohol density was 85% so they reset it and flashed the fuel pump and ecu. It was at zero and they told me to go put about 10 gallons of fuel in so I did and then it started sputtering again. Sat there for about 10 minutes feathering the pedal again and back to life again. Hooked up my scan tool and the Alcohol density was back to 85% again took it back to the dealership and they said to bring it back in the following week so they can look further into it. They also said that the aftermarket fuel tank is probably the problem.

So I’m taking in tomorrow to see if they can figure it out. Is there anybody that might have a clue on what it might be?

‘thanks for listening to my problem also no check engine lights
    Kevin

I hope you get this figured out Kevin. I haven't had any issues with my Tranfer Flow. I would hope the problem can be identified and if it is the tank, I'm hoping Tranfer Flow will step up and make it right.

Think you might have a vacuum leak somewhere? A disconnected vacuum hose or tank vent hose somewhere?

Did you put a new pump on it or reuse your old one? Since your truck is 4-5 years old, debris could have stirred up in your old tank during the change and clogged the pump. Did you have them check the fuel filter? I think it’s inside the tank. Not sure how easy it is to check.

I forgot to mention in my little novel that Toyota said it was the fuel pump and they changed it out and it did the same thing. I had the people that installed the tank pay for it.

But what about the filter and lines? Did they change it all out? Debris could be stuck somewhere else if it seems like the engine is not getting gas.

I had a transfer flow on my 2010 non ffv. I didn’t have any issues like this. I wouldn’t think it’s the ffv though as others have done the tank swap. Maybe some wires are crossed or were accidentally cut/crimped and fuel pump is shorting out.

RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
I would guess that you are dealing with that flex fuel gremlin that is affecting so many of us. I am waiting for the back ordered fuel pump. The ecu has also been reset a couple time after showing high alcohol.

If my truck had these issues when I put on the Tranfer Flow I think the first thing we would do is drop the tank, inspect everything, and reinstall it again. Like turning the computer off and back on again.

That’s what I’m probably going to let toyota do. It’ll probably be best.

Well I have a update. Took it to the dealership the alcohol density was 85%, they did a software update and set it back to 0% and refreshed the ecu. They went and test drove it the and put 10 gallons in and it didn’t have problems after putting it in. Called me said everything is good.

So I went to pick it up and I went and put another 10 gallons in and hooked up my scanner to it to read the alcohol % it only got as high as 8% after I put gas in it and went back to 0%. So I headed out for a 50 mile test drive. It Accelerated like it use to and everything seems to be back to normal. The only problem now is I noticed on really cold mornings it as about a 2 second delay when starting it. So I read that has something to do with the flex fuel. So maybe they can re flash it again. Guess I’ll find out. I’m just happy it’s running like it use to.

This is the flex fuel density issue. It just happened to correlate with the Transferflow. I've had mine for many miles and I only wish gas was cheaper.

8% density is about right. There is some ethanol in standard gasoline. Glad everything got sorted out. You'll love the tank.
