I am looking for information / specs on a transmission drain and fill for the 22+ 10speed.

I am familiar with Toyota's overflow system approach for checking fluid.

What is the check pan temperature for the 22-25?
What is the drain plug gasket part #?
What is the fill plug gasket part # or is it a reusable O ring?
What are the torque specs for both?

    Thanks!

That leveling straw is a pretty cool idea, didn't hear, is it reusable or do you get a new one with the gasket?

If it's like my 2014 sienna, and I think it is, it is reusable. You just have to be gentle when you reinstall it.

Edit: Just watched the video. The drain straw is identical to the Sienna I owned. It is a reusable part

This procedure is not all that different from the other Toyotas I have owned.

I would like to know what the temperature ranges are for checking the fluid for those of us that like to read them with and app/scanner. It's so much easier to manage then the D/N/D/N procedure that only yields a blinking light.

I will be installing an aux trans cooler sometime this spring and I want to get the fluid level dialed in.

Update on this. The torque specs in the video are wrong for the gas Tundra. According to the FSM, torque is 30ft lbs for both drain and fill. Level set temperature is 99*-109* with the thermostat pinned open for the gas truck.

FYI the torque specs from the video are for the 07-21 tundra.

Dumb question. Is the leveling straw already in there?

It is there from the factory, yes.

You use the same 6mm hex head to remove it after you pull the drain plug. The pipe/straw threads are a smaller diameter than the plug thread diameter.

The straw holds multiple quarts of fluid back from spilling out, so you want it removed for a drain/fill.

It's really an ingenious system for using the same plug for both drain and overflow/level set procedures.

Here is a visual. The actual fluid level is several inches up from the pan bottom, but the tube retains the fluild at the correct level (at correct temperature).

What a procedure. So, I have a scanguage and see trans fluid temp. I want to check the level between 99-109 degrees then? And the drain plug is only a drain for overfup when only taken out? The straw needs to be removed to drain the pan then?

I only have 18K miles on my truck ATM, but plan on doing my own maintenance.

    Thanks in advance for clarifications,
    Mike

I've created the following from my experience with Toyota transmission services, my previous tundra, the 3rd gen FSM, and my own experience installing my trans cooler on my '25.

This for the gas Tundra. I cannot speak to the hybrid.

The information below is meant to be used as reference only. This guide does not include every procedural step nor does it direct all the necessary safety precautions. Dispose of waste fluid responsibly. I am not responsible for damage to your property or personal injury for following or failure to follow the selection of steps below. A satisfactory degree of mechanical ability and judgment is required before attempting the steps below. Attempt such a procedure at your own risk.

    - Remove the two 12mm bolts that secure the heat shield/guard over the trans fill plug (passenger side)
    - Remove the 14mm fill plug (passenger side)
    - Remove drain plug (6mm hex key) and catch fluid
    - Remove plastic overflow tube (6mm hex key) and catch fluid
    - Reinstall plastic overflow tube finger tight
    - Reinstall drain plug snuggly using old washer
    - Measure drained fluid
    - Add your choice of WS fluid through fill hole equal to total amount drained plus 1/2qt-ish - I used a few feet of 1/2" clear vinyl tubing routed out over the frame behind passenger front wheel and a funnel. I use a 1/2" plastic coupler on the trans side that slips into the fill plug hole to keep the hose in place.
    - Reinstall fill plug with new crush washer and torque to 30 ft lbs (if you are sure you got enough fluid in the trans)
    - Use a small flathead to depress the plunger on the trans thermostat and pin it in place with a stout straightened paper clip (passenger side)
    - Start truck, cycle gear selector, drive around until the trans reaches 99°-109°. This could take time with the thermostat pinned open if its cold outside.
    - Park truck - LEAVE ENGINE RUNNING in P
    - Climbing under a running vehicle is inherently dangerous. Use caution and take necessary precautions for safety.
    - Careful of hot exhaust right next to transmission
    - Remove trans drain plug and allow to drain until fluid stream becomes a dribble. (The plastic tube will retain the proper fluid level)
    - Reinstall drain plug with new crush washer and torque to 30ft lbs.
    - The fluid level is now correct assuming the temperature is 99°-109°
    - Shut off engine
    - Use the flathead on the thermostat plunger to release the pressure on the paperclip and remove
    - Reinstall heat shield/ guard over trans fill area

There are a ton of steps, but I think it's worth it.
