Looks like I’ll be getting a new transmission, have about 1000 miles on the truck. Brought my 2024 in for a rough idle sound. Only way I can explain it is if you get down by the front wheels, it’s sounds like a diesel engine. The service advisor, service manager and techs agreed it didn’t sound normal and that the noise was coming from the transmission. Contacted Toyota for guidance and were told replace the transmission. So looks like I’ll be getting a new one next week. Haven’t seen too many reports of transmissions being replaced.

There was a thread not that long ago about Trans rattling that a few here had, and got them replaced. As far as I can remember, they never came back to tell us what Toyota told them caused the noise.

Toyo may have wanted the tranny for root cause analysis if the first fix action is replace it. If that is the case likely a rare problem.

That is not a bad outcome. Better than 5 rounds of guessing parts over 3 months and then replacing if they could not hang you as the cause like GM would do.

You too huh? Mine's about 1200 miles in (build date 4/24) and I have the marbles in the transmission sound. Sent them 4 videos from different days, and they all heard it when I brought it in. My dealer said he's already done one other transmission and has 5 other Tundra's in for motors (one is a hybrid, and one is a 24). Waiting on a call from them when Toyota approves the work and parts get ordered. At least they're making it right, or so I hope. The shop foreman said once they have the parts it's a 2-3 day job, then laughed and said "at least it's not your motor, yet".

    Good luck with your repairs!

Mine went pretty straightforward. Took two days for the work. They replaced the transmission and torque converter. I was put in a rental through Enterprise, paid for by the warranty. All is good now, no noise from the transmission and everything works as it should.

Side note, the rental was a brand new F150 and that thing was awful. Made me really appreciate the Tundra when I got it back.

Mine makes a rattling sound sometimes, but it's only when the AC is on. I thought it was the AC making the noise, but now I'm wondering if it's the trans starting to go. I currently have 9,400 miles, but I noticed it with about 6,000 on it back in April. Which is the start of AC season in Phoenix.

On some of those older threads about the transmission rattling/noises, I thought the consensus was it was normal?? Side note, My Transfer case was replaced for a noise it was making while driving 15MPH at 500 miles, Several new Tundras I drove (New on the lot) made the same noise....Point is, that issue has also flown under the radar it seems....Don't know if even a TSB came out on the Transfer case issue or this Transmission issue??

This is what I thought too. I figured maybe a loose heat shield or something (wishful thinking I guess) and told them it was only really when it was super hot outside and the A/C was cranked up. Yesterday for example, it was around 80f here and I couldn't get it to make a noise at all, while other days when it's 90+ it does it reliably. Foreman said "that's not A/C related but I can see how you think it is". Weird.

Here's two of the videos I gave to my dealership that they submitted to Toyota. In the first video the noise starts around 10 seconds, so you can hear "normal" vs "abnormal" sounds in that one video. The second video is what the foreman wanted me to do, starting from the side of the truck and working my phone to where I hear the noise the loudest.

If you put the palm of your hand on the tranny pan, can you feel anything that relates to the rattling sound? Sounds like something inside is trying to get out. Just sounds that way, I wonder what a stethoscope would provide as sound?

On the plus side, I'd rather get a new transmission than a short block replacement.

Maybe the Gen 3.5 will be good to go without major repair?

That is the exact sound my truck makes when it's doing its thing. Great, now I have an engine that may or not explode and a transmission that may do the same. FML. I'm just gonna run it until it blows.
