Truck is back in the shop again. This time with a new one and wanted to see if anyone else experience it.

While reversing out of the drive way, I switched into drive and wasn’t quite fully stopped, but hardly moving. My transmission made a big clunk and all these errors came up. Truck went into limp mode, could get above 35 and did not want to shift. Parked and wait 10 minutes and it drive fine after that. Transmission error cleared but the rest stayed on for about 50 miles. Could no use cruise control until the other errors cleared.

This has happened twice now. Dropped it off at the shop, but all the codes cleared on my way to drop it off.

They’ve had it for 2 days now and are sure what is going on yet.

I vaguely remember someone else mentioning in another thread about issues that shifting before completely stopped threw some codes also... Not exactly sure what codes, or the outcome, but it has happened... Sorry I cant be of more help, but maybe searching will find it...

Much appreciate. I wanted to start this thread for so people could see it, if they run into this issue.

It mostly seems like the collusion system is too sensitive. I know you shouldn’t shift when still moving, but it shouldn’t freak out if you are hardly moving.

Agreed. I couldn't tell you the last time i came to a complete stop shifting in my 14, but never had an issue... Wasn't shifting at speed obviously, but even a slight roll was fine...

I almost never stop before dumping into drive after backing out of my driveway. Something else is going on here. Any idea on what the malfunction was? Codes?

I don’t have the actual codes, just the dash pictures , but I will get them on the report out from Toyota.

I was able to replicate it by twice with the same motion, but who knows at this point. If they can’t replicate it, I don’t know what is up.

Update. Truck is back home with no resolution. Dealer could not replicated the issue. One the lead tech asked if he could take the truck home for the night to see if he could get it to fault and was unable to. Thankfully they gave me a full tank of gas for the miles and my time.

    Service report reads:
"Scan tool read codes and freeze frame data. Found fault codes P076A71 History, P17029F Confirmed, P170300 Confirmed, P28077F History. All codes are in transmission ECU and related to solenoid activation status. Check for service bulletins and campaigns, non found for this concern. Contact toyota FTS and technical assistance. retrieve vehicle control history, transmission control history and run second health check with all data and time stamps attach all documents to TAS case. Check fluid and found 0.25-0.50Q low on fluid. No leaks found. All connectors and lines are properly attached and secure."

Once again, my shop was great but aren't able to come up with an answer. Still love my truck and it drives great when it doesn't have these stupid issues pop up.

I wonder if there’s an electrical problem… the truck doesn’t shift abnormally right? I imagine that solenoid H is used for other gears but it’s triggered only when shifting from reverse to drive?

I usually don’t come to a complete stop. Never an issue. I have a 20 though. Wonder if with the new 10 speed you could do what I can. Going 30+ mph put it in reverse and the back up camera comes on along with the reverse lights.

Always heard this was a thing, but never tried it in my Gen 2.5... Couldn't tell if it was legit, or one of those "blinker fluid" type gags haha...

It’s not a blinker fluid or muffler bearing thing. It’s real. I first did it in my 17taco. I actually had just watched a video and had to try it. I forgot the year but after a very year all Toyotas can do this.

Update: This has happened for the 5th time now. Luckily on this last time, I was near the dealership and drove straight there. Pulled into the bay and they hooked it up and read the codes right there. No more of the "we need to be able to replicate the issue", they finally say it first hand. Turns out the solenoids in the transmission are trying to put it into the wrong gear. I'll hopefully have an update on monday.

Toyota corporate is involved, who knows what that will do though. 3rd time in the shop, if they can't correct it this time, it's lemon law.

Finally got an update. They think they found the bad solenoid. No replacement parts found in the county, they estimate it will take a few weeks to get the part. Then they need to take apart the transmission and inspect for damage.

Out of a truck for a few weeks min and can’t start the lemon law process until it’s been 30 days.

Calling Toyota corp actually helped. They got the part expedited and truck is ready for pickup today. Fingers crossed it is actually fixed!

ANNNND, the fix didn't work. Issue came back. The dealer is renting me a truck while they take mine back in to see if they can fix it. I am writing my certified letter to get the lemon law process started.

Oh, I have been documenting it very intently. Ohio's law says I have to give them 3 repair attempts for the same issue, which I have. They thought it was fixed on the 3rd attempt, but nope, back in for a 4th. They said it'll probably be a transmission swap. Even if they do "fix" it, I want a replacement.

I don't trust these new transmissions. All of the extra gears and complexity aren't there to improve drivability, performance and longevity. They're just there to game the mileage numbers. They will be costly to own and probably won't last nearly as long as their six speed predecessors.

I had a brand new 2019 Lincoln Navigator as a company car for a while with a TTV6 and 10 speed transmission. It's toss up on what I hated more - the engine or the transmission. For what it's worth, the Ford/GM ten speed is pure crap. It was constantly hunting for gears, shifting strangely, bucking and even making odd ratcheting sounds occasionally when I would be coming to a stop. The TTV6 was OK but only got 17mpg in real life. Certainly not worth the loss of a V8. When cruising at highway speeds if you wanted to pass you had to floor it, give it a two second count to spool up the power, and then you could pull out and pass. Not confidence inspiring.

Man, that is so dumb. If it’s broke, it’s broke. You bought a new car not a broke car.

I’m hoping the transmission is a “big” enough issue that it’s easy to convince them. Can’t drive without it.

Update: Transmission has been swapped and I'll be picking it in the morning. Hopefully it is fixed and drivable but I'm still proceeding with the lemon law procedure.
