Got a new to me pair of fox shocks from a pro. They arrived after being serviced from Fox Friday.

While loading them up to go install I noticed the “L” and “R” shocks for the front have something strange happening.

The springs do not match the shocks. The left shock has the spring orientation facing the “R” and the right shock has the spring facing the “L”.

Never noticed this prior as I purchased them used and sent the to get serviced.

Photos attached, if this is normal so be it. Just wanted to ask a dumb question before I rip things apart.

That’s possibly going to be an issue. L and R on the spring is for UCA clearance at full droop. L and R on the shock is based on bottom collar height. The bottom collar position helps compensate for “toyota lean”.

notice in the picture the space relationship of the bottom spring collar to the top of the reservoir. It’s different to adjust for lean.

Yes- the one with the lower collar seated higher on the shock body should be designated as the left (driver) side. The spring on the left one is slightly compressed to give lift and compensate for the “driver-side lean”.

    How would I fix this?

You’d think fox would know this and do things correct the first time.

Looks to me like the those are index marks for right and left. Take a side by side picture showing the collar heights.

those just alignment marks for the top mount. just install the top first and spin the bottom with a big screw driver to align the bottom bolt hole. spray some wd40 if you need to.

    So what’s correct?
The strut marked on the bottom or the spring?
If the L strut goes on the left side I can move the top hat to accommodate.

If anyone with a pro has a second to snap a few photos it would be greatly appreciated.
Also thanks all for the help.

strut mark is right, those spring are flat top and bottom, it don't even matter which side is on. as long as top and bottom bolt align it's all good

The circled one goes on the driver side. Reservoir faces out towards the tire.

So the strut mounts need to be turned to accommodate the struts as the struts are side specific and the soakings are the same left or right.

    Got it!

Springs are same but indexed differently per side based upon upper control arm clearance at full droop.

You can find instructions online for all this.

On my 2019 PRO, the left (drivers' side) the bottom of the strut is marked "L" and the Spring itself is in the "L" position. Seems like you could loosen and rotate the spring. Since the springs are the same part number, makes no sense to swap them over.

Sure did, orientation of “L” and “R” makes zero difference as the springs are the same on both sides. However the only real difference are the shocks themselves as they are marked left and right.
Compared to my 2.0’s these aren’t much different.

I went in expecting more and got mediocre response. 2.0’s are better bang for the buck FYI, but that’s me.

I’m pretty certain the orientation does make a difference.
