I'm trying to figure out if the front skid plate that comes as part of the TRD off road package is the same one as the $380 factory option (or the TRD Pro one) - the heavier duty one with the red TRD letters.

Or put another way... I'm looking at a 1794 with TRD OR package and want the heavy duty skid plate. Wil it already come with that package or do I need to buy as an additional option?

No, the TRD OR package skid is thin sheet metal.

The only trim that comes with the Pro skid without choosing it as an option is the Pro.

My sheet metal looks like an ABS or carbon composite.

Check aftermarket, less expensive and some have an access door for the oil filter.

Not trying to contradict "Godzilla". My first hand experience

1st Tundra was a 22 TRD OR Package and the skid plate??? No skid plate but rather a heavy covering identical material as in the wheel fender wells. Toyota called it a skid plate-but it offered no protection. Had to order the TRD Pro skid plate (factory option) and install myself.
2nd Tundra 23 TRD Pro. Heavy TRD Skid Plate comes with the package

I bought the TRD Pro plate from Sparks -- delivered I think it was 400ish dollars. It says TRD Pro on it but the plate looks like it could stop bullets. It is thick and heavy.

Wonder if they opted for that in the third generation instead of the thin metal. Honestly, probably similar protection.

Might also depend on the auto-air dam thing. Not sure how that does or does not work on various trims and the skid options.

Will the heavy duty optional TRD one work with the factory 3" lift? Bolt right on?

It's not metal on the TRD OR. Toyota calls it "ballistic nylon".

I just wish it covered more. I’d be ok with the material if it was larger. Front diff is pretty exposed under there.

I believe the trd off road has the “ballistic nylon” at least mine does. The fabric is on the non trd off road to the best of my knowledge

I have the TRD skidplate. Heavy aluminum, it's the real deal.

It didn't come with my TRD OR package, it was a $400+ factory installed upcharge.

I have the SR5 non TRD felt. Thought about putting a layer of Kevlar fabric over it with resin. I like the ballistic nylon though, haven’t seen that before now.
