TRD Pro Grill and TSS

I wanted to install the 2017 Pro grill on my 2021 until I stared to read about the TSS and how much it’s a PIA. I was going to try the 2021 grill but seems like the TSS is still an issue since my truck utilizes the Toyota center emblem and the pro is a square patch underneath. From what I’ve read the aftermarket TSS’s aren’t reliable and the oem one is very expensive.

then I found this- says 14-18 but don’t see why it won’t fit the 21. Unless the Toyota emblem on the 21 is a different size? Any thoughts?

Seems like best option to dump chrome trim.

The sensor will fit from the oval location to the rectangular location , it mounts the same way. You don't have to buy a new sensor just unscrew it from behind the Toyota logo and screw it onto the PRO grille.

 

Your 2021 sensor will not fit on that ebay grille because they changed the sensor mounting in 2019 and it doesn't mount on a 2018 grille.

Thanks!! This is great. Based on this it does look like I will need the flat TSS cover that goes over the flat area on the 20+ TRD grill. $300+ which is crazy.

Thanks again. I’d love to use the earlier style TRD grill but it looks like there are still possible issues with functionality with the sensor relo. I’m sure this will get resolved at some point but I’m more interested in changing my chrome surround to cement gray. I may buy the 2017 grill, swap my current 21 insert and hold the TRD one until resolved. At least that gets chrome deleted and keeps my TSS functioning normally for the time being.

 

I have the older style on mine. I don't have issues since I have the Jomax relocation kit which is no longer made. @2020Platinum mounted his in the lower portion of the grille surround when he had his Royalty Core grille and didn't have any issue. You could try that as an option as well.

Can anyone let me know if the TSS sensor cover will affect using my cruise control or just the cruise control distance from another vehicle ?

 

You can buy the cheaper 2017 grille with cement surround, remove the black center (the actual grille) and replace with your honeycomb black grille, obviously keeping your sensor. I believe this is the cheapest way to go. Sparks lists this cement grille on ebay.

 

It will be affected without the correct cover. When I first installed my Pro grille, I had the AJT relocation kit. It would cause my adaptive cruise to kick in and slow down because it detected vehicles that were in the other lanes.

Unfortunately most of them do not work. The TSS cover is made with a special type of material and glass. The Amazon stuff is ABS.

 

Buy it and if it doesn't work you can return it to Amazon. The risk doesn't cost you anything but time.

 

By work I mean, will I be able to use cruise control at all? Or will the only thing that will most likely not work in the long run is the vehicle distance sensor

 

Go put something solid over your sensor and see what works. This is likely what will happen with the Amazon one.
