I just acquired 2021 Tundra TRD Pro. My last vehicle was 2009 LC 200. I miss Reverse Tilt-Down Mirror feature and I could use Power Folding Mirror feature (I found a kit from ktjo4x4.com). I know these features were standard on Platinum and 1794, but not available on TRD Pro. I don’t want to upgrade to Tow Mirrors. I want to stay with the standard OEM mirrors. As a staring point I may need to purchase used Platinum or 1794 mirrors and mirror control switch, which I will gladly do. Can someone point me to a write-up where someone upgraded their TRD Pro mirrors to include the Reverse Tilt-Down and Power Folding Mirror? Thanks in advance.

Limited does not have that feature. Platinum maybe has that though.

I have a 2015 SR5 and I added the power fold, turn signal, auto dim, blind spot, and puddle light mirrors from a 1794 to mine. It’s not really that complicated, just a bit of a pain in the ass running the wires and attaching the Canbus style plug pins! You’ll need a new switch for the power fold, and there’s a website that sells them. KTO 4x4 or something, but I can’t remember at the moment. I never hooked up the blind spot because it’s even more involved, but everything else works and I love it! I think the Power fold is great, but the puddle lights are my favorite. Switched them to LED and they’re amazing!

You’ll also have to swap a wire and remove the BSM wire if it has BSM and you aren’t hooking it up. If not, it’ll keep the BSM light illuminated while driving at all times. Annoying! I’ll try to find a link in the morning to the instructions. Found a perfectly new set of 1794 mirrors on OfferUp for like $150 so they’re out there. Look close and know what you’re looking for, as most people miss label them or don’t take great pictures and you can find them cheap. Turn signals in the mirror is a dead giveaway, but if they’re the older styles, they may not have power fold or puddle lights. 1794 and Platinums from 2014-2021 I think have the full option mirrors.

19-21 were built off the limited trim, not SR5 like the 15-17 TRD Pro.

that said, yes, only the 1794 and Platinum have power fold and reverse tilt.

the wiring in those trucks is markedly different for operating the mirrors - there is an ECU in each door that is tied into the seat memory, power steering wheel tilt, and mirror control. Without all of those components, you are likely to see issues/errors pop up from the system. The mirror control switch is completely different internally and the wiring to the actually doors is slightly different as well (the BSM pin-out is different, and a few other differences).

could it be done? Potentially, as I learned by adding both BSM and parking sonar to my own TRD Pro. Well it be simple? No. Will it be plug and play? Not a chance.

OP - you can start by downloading the wiring diagrams (link in my signature) and start comparing circuits for the different mirrors, which will lead you to all the other circuits that are integrated into those ECUs.

What you described sounds perfect. TRD Pro doesn't have Blind Sport Monitor, therefore I wouldn't be hooking it up or adding it. Do you have a write up, parts list, or anything else that you can share? Thx.

I can possibly find everything and help with some sort of a write up. I had to look at wires, and work on the fly when testing wires as they all don’t match up to peoples drawings. I was an electrician in the Military for 21 years so I have some experience, but it wasn’t THAT hard! Just a lot of trial and error. Where are you located? If you’re close to Cali I can possibly help in person, as you’ll need two people to pull wires anyway lol!

Can you add the Sonar because it’s a 2021? Can it be added to a 2015 SR5 trim?

A few other minor upgrades but yes, mostly the dual auto AC. Why they removed dual AC in 2014 still baffles me.

I was very close to doing the Platinum TRD Faux as well, but I had to have that color…

You won’t have the reverse tilt without the full system, but the rest can be made to work.

Thanks for the generous offer to help, unfortunately I'm on the other coast, I'm in Florida. Let's start with the parts.

I could be wrong, but I believe the vendor you referenced may not be on this forum anymore. Someone with more history on that subject can likely chime in.

Not specifically because it’s a ‘21. The system as a whole isn’t significantly different between the 14-17 and 18-21 trucks, but there are some significant differences in the rest of the CAN system because of the addition of the safety sense. That said, the sonar has its own ECU and sends those signals direct to the instrument cluster for the read out.

I’ve documented the majority of the process in my build thread. There was a fair amount of trial and error involved, and ultimately learned that (at least for the 18-21 trucks) the instrument cluster itself is a different part number for rigs with sonar vs. those without. So that requires obtaining a replacement gage cluster with the right options and getting it programmed for the correct mileage.

I’ve done it to two trucks now - I was hired by someone to install it in their ‘21 pro, and had to install it in mine to fully research and confirm how to get it functioning first.

ultimately, my take on the sonar is that it is expensive and fairly involved to install, and provides little real value. With a front camera and the FRAC harness installed, I can use my front and rear cameras to visually see the positions of my bumper with much better clarity at a fraction of the cost, and I doubt have to deal with the obnoxious beeping when doing things like taking the trash down to the end of my road with the tailgate down, or the vehicle in front of me in the drive through. 99% of the time, my sonar is turned off and the button just wastes space.

    haha (definitely different Tom)
I took pictures of my plugs, attached. These look like standard TRD Pro plugs, no surprises.
I searched FB Marketplace and Offerup in my local area for Platinum or 1794 mirrors, but no luck so far. I read that newer model mirrors (from Platinum/1794) with turn signal indicators will work on TRD Pro without running additional wiring, this would be my preference. Do you know what year they added turn signal indicators? Do you know part #'s for mirrors with turn signal indicators?

I need to do a little research - I have it somewhere but don’t remember where.
They will plug in and the TURN SIGNALS will work. The power fold and puddle lights won’t do anything though without running extra wires.

    Edit:
    QTY 1 – 87910-0C570 (Platinum mirror Right)
    QTY 1 – 87940-0C570 (Platinum mirror Left)

for power folding (without all the extra ECU's) you need part 84872-52040. You can search Amazon for them for around $20, or factory original will run you $50-ish I think.

This will not give you any of the memory features or auto-reverse-tilt (which would require the full memory/ECU system from a Platinum).

This post in my build thread covers the wiring needed for power fold - it won't matter that you are doing platinum mirrors instead of tow mirrors.

I’ll post any links to ones I see. Most of them are on OfferUp. A majority of people mislabeled them, so I would just look for tundra mirrors, and then filter through the pictures that you see to find the ones you’re looking for. If you see they have the turn signals, there’s a pretty good chance that they may be the ones you’re looking for. Usually if they have turn signals, and the puddle lights, they’re power folding too. Not 100% sure, but there’s a good chance.

Gotta watch out for aftermarket ones. I bought a set once that the seller didn’t even know one was aftermarket (he bought the truck used and they were on it when he bought it).

Yeah I’m sure! Luckily I didn’t run into them with mine. I usually look for the Toyota OEM stickers, but hard to see in pics sometimes

I saw two different switches for Platinum 84870-0C050 USK51,56..Z and 84870-0T020-C0 USK51..HTWCF..Z OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR-*RCM&EXTENDED&*HEA&TURN SIGNAL(BLACK),BLACK. Is there any way to find out what one switch does vs. the other?

I really want the reverse tilt-down feature. What would "full memory/ECU system from Platinum" involve? Is there no switch with memory?

I read a post from about 10 years ago on a different forum suggesting Reverse Mirror Tilt Module (Deluxe) from KP Technologies. However, it appear that KP Technologies is no longer in business. I really don't want to go aftermarket, I would prefer OEM solution.

The platinum switches won’t work without installing everything else that is in a platinum truck - reread this from above:

That sounds like a huge undertaking for a tilt/down feature! I get it though! I'm in the same boat with BSM, and I’m willing to run wires and add the components to add the BSM stuff myself, but it’s a lot for a small convenience lol
