Anyone else encountered this dilemma? I need to remove my skid plate in order to install my TRD front sway bar.
The Toyota DIO instructions for the TRD Skid Plate state:
"NOTE: The rear fastener lock nuts are nonreusable. Always use new lock nuts when reinstalling the skid plate."
These are the nuts that attach to the rear bolts that go through the frame and on top of the wedge washers.
BUT - Toyota does not sell the lock nuts separately. They are sold by Toyota only in the complete hardware package - PTR938-34140-HW MSRP $118.12 (not kidding).
FIRST - are you folks reusing the lug nuts because (a) you did not read or know of the instructions or (b) you are unwilling to buy a ton of extra hardware for $118 to get a pair of nuts?
SECOND - Anyone have a work around? Another way to purchase the appropriate lock nuts?
THIRD - It seems dealerships have the same problem with Toyota and reuse the nuts. If this is a safety issue (hence no reuse) then there are a bunch of Tundras that are unsafe because Toyota requires people to spend $59/nut when the skid plate is reinstalled.

    Alot of them
I looked at the instructions and I don't see why they can't be reused. You could always grab some stainless steel lockouts with the nylon insert from Lowes if you wanted to replace them.

This is what I'm doing with my second hand plate.
