I have a 2016 TRD 5.7 tundra. Everything Working fine till I ran in to a store. When I came back out to leave, started truck and gear shifter was locked. Googled and saw you could press into slot next to shifter to release. That worked, but then noticed ABS light and Traction control light on. I went under truck to inspect speed sensor lines and everything visually looked okay. No broken wires, etc. after doing some more investigating, noticed brake lights don’t work. Both sides. I checked all the fuses and nothing blown. Replaced the 15 amp brake fuse just to be sure. Still no brake lights working. Im guessing everything is related to same problem. Never had any issue. Only thing I can think is I used my trailer yesterday to pick up some dirt. But nothing wrong till today. I did check all the related fuses like tow and brakes, etc. I do know that the abs and traction control would likely be in same problem. Any ideas ho to fix, starting out with simplest and least expensive?

There are fuses under dash and under hood, so check both boxes. I would also disconnect the battery for half hour. While it is disconnected, check and see if battery is going bad, so volt and load test if you can. Battery starting to go will do all sorts of funky things in a Tundra, odd, unrelated warnings, light, issues. If battery check ok, then reconnect and see if the issues are still there. That is what I would try first, before needing to dig deeper.

Thanks . I’ll definitely try all that out. I have a load tester as well.
Forgot to add, I did check fuses under hood. I don’t think I have a fuse panel under dash, at least not one I can see anywhere. I did disconnect battery and clean terminals earlier today, when it happened, but only for about 5 minutes. It’s pouring out now so probably wait till tomorrow morning but I will pull battery cables and do a load test and test volts. Didn’t think of that. Thanks.

So, after reading a little more on this issue, it seemed like most posts pointed at the brake light switch being the issue. So decided to try that first, as it seemed like all my fuses were good. Took out the wiring harness, blew it out with some air and manually pressed switch several times. Plugged it back in. Started truck and tried shifter and it worked. Immediately abs and traction lights went out.
I live by the beach so I think what happened is sand clogged up the switch and made it inoperable.
Anyway, glad it was an easy fix and thanks for your help. If that didn’t work was ready to move on to checking battery. But didn’t need to.

Makes sense, the skid control ecu couldn’t see brake pedal input so it was throwing codes. The flashing ABS and Traction control lights are like a universal sign the Skid control ECU is not happy.

Same for the shift lock ECU, if it can’t see a brake pedal input it would not let you shift out of park.

Same for the tail/brakes lights. If they don’t see the brake pedal move they don’t know to light up.

For reference you definitely have an interior fuse box. It’s under the dash on the drivers side built into the body control module ECU. It’s a larger black box and if you look close it has a door on it opening up to a fuse box.

I just took these quick photos of the extra one I have laying around so you know what it looks like up under the dash.

Where is this brake light switch located? Want to know just in case it happens to me.

This is my exact problem, where is the brake light switch?

I just replaced the brake switch and the relay in the fuse box. It's still not working.

What exactly is not working? Details of recent modifications changes will also help, if any.

Shifter locked, abs and traction light on. I just found the Stop fuse was blown. I replaced that and still no change.

Check the 7.5A ECU-IG No. 1 Fuse also.

The shift lock circuit is really simple. Power from 15A stop through the Stop light switch then to the shift lock. Make sure your connections are the stop light switch are good. This diagram is for a 2014, your wire color maybe different but its the same layout.

If both fuses are good and you have power to the 15A stop fuse (you should but verify with voltmeter) then your problem has to be the stop light switch or a broken wire somewhere not giving a good connection.

Same thing just happened to me. I just did my safety check and registration. I get back into the truck and my abs and traction lights are on and I can't move the shifter from the Park position. I saw a youtube video and stuck a screwdriver into the hole to move the shifter. I'm gonna try what y'all did....
