Truck occasionally doesn't start without pressing key fob on button

So quick question for everyone, I have 23 limited and was curious about something I’ve never seen. Every few weeks when I try and start my truck it will not start after several attempts of pressing the button and brake. I then have to take the key fob out of my pocket and press it on the start button in order for it to work? Is this normal because my son’s Tacoma doesn’t do it and my Ford never has either? Just curious what or why this is?

 

You may want to swap the FOB battery and see if it makes a difference.

 

Ok truck only has 3900 miles?

 

It’s weird and I believe it tells me on the screen to touch the start button with the fob? Called dealership Friday and complained about only having one fob too. Been 3 months.

 

Classic symptom for a dead FOB. I buy a stack of them from Amazon for a few bucks and swap as needed. I'd try a battery before taking any time at a dealership. Let us know if it fixes the issue.

This happens to me too from time to time. I think I have it narrowed down to when I unlock my truck with the Toyota app. I usually do this when I’m outside and need to load stuff in the truck and don’t have the keys on me so I may not be starting the truck for another 10 minutes or so after i unlock with the app and I get whatever loaded and ready to leave. I don’t do this enough to be sure, but just an idea for you to check.

 

This has happened to me when I leave my truck unlocked in the garage. The fob has to communicate with your truck.

When I enter my truck I set my fob in the cup holder before I go to start it. This way the fob can communicate with the truck.

It's happen to me once,
Fobs in my left pocket.
I notice now the app shows key fob health now too.

 

So my dealership swapped the battery but after a few weeks it started the same issue again. Before it will start I have to place the fob on the start button. Any suggestions? Going to dealership Saturday and was going to speak with them too.

That happened to me as well, I had to take the fob and manually lock then unlock the truck and then repeat ignition firing "once" and it never happened again,weird good to know I'm not the only one thus happened to.

This same thing has happened to me once in the 3 months I've had the truck. Battey is good according to my app as well.

 

Do you have one of those cheap accessory rings that stick around your push start button? People buy them from Amazon and websites like that. They can interfere with the signal from your fob.

 

My app doesn’t tell me anything about the key fob!?

 

Try clicking on Health & Alerts. It should say "KeyFob Good" if it's working properly.

 

I have to go to health report and I can see a check mark. Canadian app must be different. Thanks

 

No Amazon add on around the button and I still have only 1 fob. Dealership said to call service manager next week and see if I can get another fob now vs waiting till next year?
