Howdy y'all. I have a 2017 TRD CM. This afternoon I went to leave and she wouldn't start. The brake pedal is really stiff, and if I turn the key, I just get a grinding noise. The battery seems fine- lights and radio all work and the voltage meter reads about 14.
Any ideas on what's happening and if it's something I can fix myself?
    Thanks y'all!

brake pedal is stiff because you have pumped up the brakes. Grinding noise is either the starter isnt full engaging or not fully releasing. You may have to press really hard on brake pedal to overcome interlock to start engine.

Something is weird with your battery or your voltmeter. Your battery should be less than 14V when the truck is running. Fully charged voltage for a 12V battery is 12.6-12.8 volts.

Grinding when you turn the key sounds like starter issue.

Watch this Chris Fix video for simplified diagnosis of starting problems.

I suspect the grinding noise you're hearing is the same as at 02:23 in the video below. This is not a grinding noise, but the starter solenoid cycling very quickly. If that is the noise you're hearing, your battery is probably bad.

Thanks, that video seems to be pretty great. I'm going to try to trouble shoot using a couple of those things, plus jamming the brake pedal back down.

Take a look at the starter to make sure that the bolts have not backed out. It won't take much to cause a misalignment between the starter gear and the flex plate.

FYI.....The starter is in a very stupid location.

Don't tell me that it is still under the intake? If true, I would eat the cost of a new battery just to rule that out.
