    Guys,

Just got a quote of $2500 for a Leer 100R for my 2012 Double Cab. It has head liner, and removable front window. Does that seem like a fair price?

Yes. That’s about what I paid for my ARE a few years ago and I’ve heard prices have gone up a lot since then. I’m surprised it’s not higher.

Yeah prices are crazy for shells these days, in my opinion. I remember buying my gigantic square ARE DCU back around ~2013-2014 and almost being embarrassed about paying the exorbitant amount of $2400. Now a pretty plain, regular model, cab height DCU is about $3500, no ladder rack, fewer features than I had on my old one. I’m not in love with the MX I have on my new truck, but I got it used, in awesome condition, for $1500 (which is still too much). No wait was the best part; found it about a week after I got my truck. I’m definitely itching to get another DCU, but it just doesn’t make sense for me at the moment.

Worst part for me, I already have an ARE Z cap on my ‘08 and I planned on swapping to my new ‘21 but found out it will not fit. So...new one on the way but ARE does not make an 8 ft in a z model anymore.

So consensus is that $2500 is a fair price at the moment?

I think that is currently a decent price. Get it.

If shipping, taxes, and install are included, It’s the going price but be prepared to get half that the day you sell it. Supply and demand. It’s a bad time to buy...anything. I’d also check FB Market place and eBay.

    Check FB,Craigslist,OfferUp,anywhere you can.

There are deals to be had if you are patient. You could buy a top and have it professionally painted for less than 1/2 the price

True. It usually costs 400-600 to just paint the shell so obviously best to find a used already color matched shell

Thanks for everyones input. One other thing. Does the extra weight of the shell smooth out the ride in the rear of the truck a little bit?

Well there is Fit and then there is Fit too.

Your current one will work but will leave a 1 1/2" gap at the cab end too but this can be pretty easily fixed for function and watertight operation at the expense of 1 1/2" wider gap between the cap and rear cab window.

For me this is easy to accept compared to buying a new cap if this is the only downside to using the one I already have,YMMV obviously.

I personally liked the feel of my Tacoma with a shell on suspension wise. Felt like it leveled out the truck a hair too

I just ordered a Leer 100r for my 2020 DC. Removable Front slider and screen guards for the sliders. I got it for $2230 including Pa. tax and installation. I live very close to where Leer is located. The dealer is in the same industrial park. I was told 4 to 6 weeks?
