Does anyone know how far in advance Toyota plans the builds for Tundras? And if so, how far in advance does it allocate that vehicle to a dealer? So do they know the config of Tundra that is going to be built in a couple months, or is it a shorter timeframe? The reason I'm asking is, I put an "order" for a Tundra last month, and was wondering if the dealer gets an estimated build date, even if its months out.

My dealer said that they know when the truck will be approximately 2 months out.

Don’t forget putting in an order does’t get you anything unless a VIN has been put on your contract. If they have a VIN they will get a build date. Once it Is built arrivals at dealership have been another month plus depending on where you are located.

I put a deposit down on a hybrid in December (before they were in production). I got my allocation in early August (VIN was provided at this time) and truck showed up about 4 weeks later. But I'm in the Austin area and the trucks are just loaded on a semi from the factory and delivered direct. I think people farther from the factory are going to wait longer than 4 weeks between allocation and deliver because most trucks are going to have to go through port/rail which is a slow process.

Sounds like you only have a deposit down. That's just a waiting game until the dealership gets an allocation that matches your preferences. They didn't send your wishes to the factory to build your specific truck. They are waiting for the factory to allocate something that closely resembles what you want before they reach out to you. It's up to you whether you want to be flexible on what you want to accept vs. holding firm for EXACTLY what you asked for. You should ask your dealer where you are in the deposit line for a truck of that similar configuration. They are going to call everyone on the list ahead of you to see if they want the specific truck that got allocated to them. It could be a long list or a short list ahead of you. It may be a long line ahead of you, but if they are all very picky on what they want, they may skip that allocation and you'll be up sooner.

I hate this modern way of getting a new Tundra. I want to go to the lot and pick it out what I want or have the dealer locate exactly what I want and get it there. I am living your experience. Deposit, no VIN, waiting on notification of the dealer's allocation. We had to endured the same thing with my wife's 2022 Sienna.

I agree with you @Tundra17944Ever. With Toyotas online build platform, a lot of buys would happily build there truck, put down a deposit and wait for it to be built. We are waiting up to nine months or more now. Maybe supply chain issues dictate what parts they can get and that determines what they build. It a head scratcher.

I put down a deposit for a hybrid platinum in September 2021. I got my VIN a couple weeks ago and truck is still a few weeks out.

I put down a deposit in November 2021 for a Limited TRD off-road. Nothing close has been allocated to my dealer. They haven’t had an off-road or PRO allocated to them in almost 6 months. I just reached out to the dealership and asked them if I would lose my spot in line if I change my order to a 2023 PRO.
    This waiting is ridiculous.

At this point I think you will be getting 23 either way. I ordered a 22 SR5 in Dec 21 and just found out I should be receiving a 2023 in November

oh yeah. My salesman already told me my order will roll to a 2023. I just don’t want to lose my spot in line if I change it from my original order to a PRO. I’ve been on the list for almost a year so I’d hope I’m pretty near the front of the list at the dealership.

You should be able to move lists. They just move you from the current list over to the pro list and put you in line based on your Nov 21 deposit date. I made this move while I was on wait, but I got off the pro list and just got on a hybrid 4x4 list. I was #36 on the pro list and they only get 1-2 per month.

I can only imagine you would wait even longer for a pro. I haven't even seen one here in Canada

You are correct. I was able to move lists and keep my spot. I was told there are 3 or 4 on the list at my dealership for PRO's. So I'm likely at the top since its been almost a year since i put my deposit down.

I ordered my 22’ in November 21’. They said I should expect the truck around April. Then in September 22’ they got an allocation that had everything I wanted except tow mirrors. I took it…….

I wanted a 1794 but got a platinum. I didn’t get tow mirrors, but everything else is great so far. The truck with rear air suspension can handle a lot of payload…..
