    Hey guys,

I've currently got a 2018 crew max. Running the MCM fab/ADS mid travel kit for suspension. 17" methods on 35" Toyo's. Overland Tailor tune. Couple other things. Full details of build and adventures here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/marvs-boring-black-sr5.119755/

We just had our 5th child so I no longer have the ability to take everybody on off-road adventures in the truck! Since the Tundra has been such a great powertrain I'm exploring the idea of moving into a 2nd gen sequoia. We already picked up a 2019 expedition max for my wife's daily and long haul towing trips with the entire family.

I'm looking for advice on suspension setups that would rival what I've got on the Tundra. I'd still probably tow a bit with the Sequoia, but it would be for shorter trips here in CO. The priority for the suspension would be off-road performance and I like to go as fast as I can. The truck will probably end up near max (or potentially over) GVWR with armor, bumpers, people, and gear for a typical outing.

Any suggestions on a bad ass suspension setup? I see LT kits and all kinds of shit for the front, but the rear is new territory for me. I'd love 37's if it's possible. What's up on these things?!

Platinum is what I have. I went with the Eibach 2.0 from a Tundra and the specific Bilstein 5100 with the Tandem Off Road air bag spacer kit. You can run 35's easy with this setup, 37's with some creative trimming. If you go with a Limited/Platinum I would stick with the Dobinsons kits. If you plan on towing and constantly loading up the rig I would go for a Platinum with the air ride.

1st Gen Off road has a bunch of options.

As you know, the front suspension is pretty much the same as the Tundra, so you can use whatever you like in the front. I have a platinum Sequoia with rear air suspension...some like it, some don't like it. The non-platinum models have regular spring and shock setup in the rear. Unfortunately there are not as many lift options for the rear. Dobinsons is a good choice. Like Rodtheviking said...1st gen offroad is a good source for Sequoia info. I went with Eibach 2.0 in front and dobinsons in rear, they are good enough for what I use it for. But I like the Fox more that I have on my Tundra.

On a side note...you mentioned that you have 5 kids. Just an fyi...the platinum models have captain chairs with a console between them in the second row. (7 passenger) If you want a bench seat, you can look into a Limited or SR5 (8 passenger).

    Thanks for the replies!

The Dobinsons MRR kits look nice. Been hearing a lot about them and the 3 way compression/rebound adjust seems nice. I’ve got triple bypass rear shocks right now that are prob overkill for my use, but the adjustability is something I’ve come to like.

I’m still scratching my head as to why TC and Solo offer long travel kits for the fronts of these trucks when there appears to be no options for a long travel rear. LT on the front and stock travel on the rear is going to be stupid. Am I missing something?

I think for trims I’d be fine with the SR5 or limited. I’ve had air suspension in the past and it’s too much of a compromise/liability for off-road use.

Are there aftermarket options for gears, lockers, or lower range transfer cases on the sequoia?

Does anyone know if the RCI rock sliders for the 07-21 Tundra fit the 08-22 Sequioa? They look really similar.

Sequoia 10” IRS gears and locker development. And 37’s…

    https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/its-finally-happening-2nd-gen-sequoia-locker.1235988/

This. Not a ton of room back there, but enough for good suspension parts. The rear suspension is surprising good out of the box. And that’s coming from a guy that typically abhors most rear independent suspension vehicles. Being a unique setup, the rear suspension has the fewest off the shelf options. The front is slightly different from the tundra, but tundra parts will work no problem. I might even have a gently used set of front MRR’s..

We absolutely love our ‘15 SR5 sequoia. Stock except for Bilsteins, RCI skids, Perry bump stops, better tires, and a tune from OTT that woke the thing up. I would love to go wild with it but the Mrs likes it the way it is. My truck is kinda.. violent.. to drive in comparison. Not really a better word for it. Maybe visceral?

I don’t think the tundra sliders will fit the sequoia. Maybe I’ll go measure a few things and will be surprised.

Tundra LT is cross compatible, I doubt they actually make a kit specific to the Sequoia. And because the Sequoia market is so small no one makes LT for the rear, so you just end up with carry over front end parts for the Tundra and rarely get something specific to the Sequoia rear suspension.

Yep, saw that Auburn locker yesterday. Tandem has a nice package all put together that includes everything needed for front and rear regear, plus the locker. They tryin to make it easy to swipe that card! https://shop.tandemoffroad.com/coll...s/products/2g-sequoia-gear-and-locker-package

Technically, doesn't Sequoia have softer springs on front than Tundra from factory? Though I know everyone says fine to install Tundra aftermarket coilovers on Sequoia front.

Auburn E locker appears to be the only option, which I'd be fine with. Seems like a no brainer if I regear and would make a huge difference when wheels come off the ground (which I imagine would be a more common occurrence with the rear independent suspension.

When you say "not a ton of room" do you mean in terms of mounting space or clearance for travel?

The more I look at these things, the more I believe they could be a badass trail rig. I'm already wheeling full size with the Tundra. I think the Sequoia would be seem really familiar to me and I could bring the whole gang.

Sliders may not fit, but the imagery from RCI's website looks REALLY similar. Maybe a couple tabs to remove or add but they look like they share the same mounting footprint. My neighbor has a Sequoia. I may ask him if I can crawl under and look.

Yep. short of a wild-ass fabrication fest I dont think this thing would see LT. I'd probably sell off my ADS system that's on the tundra to fund a dobinsons kit and be done with it.

I need CM sliders to fit, dammit! Seems like the cab length on a CM would be closer to the Sequoia vs the DC? I suppose we're fixin to find out.

Not sure about the OEM differences. I think the "softest" spring I've ever seen offered on a Tundra or Sequoia aftermarket coilover is 650. After riding around on 700's in my Tundra, I think I'm ready to try something softer. I think the Dobinsons MRR stuff is 650, front and back.

I'm not 100% sure. I tried to fit my go rhino steps from my CrewMax onto my Sequoia, they did not fit. Maybe with some modification and cutting, you can get it to fit.

Yes, I believe they do so you may end up with a little more lift than advertised for Tundra. But that is the nice thing about coilovers, you can adjust to your desired height. I adjusted the Eibach 2.0 to my desired height

RE sliders... I measured my factory steps on my truck and sequoia to get some approximate lengths. I have a DC tundra but crewmax steps on them (yep, I know, weird. But it's what I've got for now until I can modify my pretender sliders to make both a better step and actually mount to the frame...); the sequoia has factory steps. Sequoia steps are 81", crewmax steps are 91", DC steps *should be* 81" as well so I would think DC sliders should be made to work but with some adjustments due to the Sequoia frame being fully boxed vs reinforced C on the tundra where the sliders mount.

I know that most sliders don't use the factory body mounts that factory steps do, but just for reference, I measure the mounts as well. Referencing the first mount at the front of the truck and working back, DC and Crewmax steps have mounts at 22, 44, and 59" from the front. The Sequoias are 22, 44, and 61.5" - the only apparent difference being the rearmost mount.

I think I've got a pic of the rear shock setup, but it is shorter than the tundra shock. If the top mount were extended, it would protrude in to the rear seating arm rest area and maybe in to the seat. I'm sure you could figure out a way to mount the reservoir, but I would think it difficult to fit a larger diameter shock with external fittings in to the OE shock location.

That said, I would LOVE to see somebody defy those obstacles. So make it happen!

The sequoia actually has slightly better ground clearance due to the IFS/IRS combo even thought is about 3/4" lower from the factory. The guy mentioned in the link I posted above wheels his HARD. I think there's another guy that basically does the same thing with his sequoia but it's black. One of the 4x4 shops that did the work has a walkaround video on the TubeOfYous somewhere.

I think Marv means a rear locker. That’s a center diff lock. The beauty of the 2nd gen Sequoia is that torsen center diff. It can run 2H, 4H, or 4L unlocked. But then you lock it, and it’s like the Tundra in 4wd—equal power sent to front and rear diffs, but those diffs are still open.

I have sliders from Rocky Road Oufitters on the way, still about a month out. I can grab some shots when I mount them.

    Great info guys, thank you!

I changed the thread title to encompass more aspects.

anyone know if the tundra bannock built arb twin compressor mount will work on the sequoia? Engine bay pics make it look slightly different in that passenger side firewall area, but I’m not sure.
