I have a 2020 Tundra crewmax 4x4 TRD Limited. It is the iForce v8 5.7 liter with the tow package. I am buying a travel trailer and keep finding different numbers online for towing. Many say 8800, some say 9200, some 10200. The dealer said 10200 but I wanted yet another opinion! I'm trying to decide on a travel trailer, that needs a truck max towing at 9400 to pull, with a fully loaded trailer. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Look at the stickers in your driver side door jamb. If you are not sure what they mean, post up pics of them and we can translate, but it's pretty easy to read.

Payload is going to be your issue. You likely will have a payload of 1200-1300 lbs, check the sticker on your door jamb. A travel trailer of that size will have a tongue weight of ~940 lbs. That'll leave you ~300 lbs for the rest of your payload that needs to include driver, hitch, and any other supplies/passengers being transported in the truck.

Like @AzureNightmare said, the door jamb is going to be the best source of information. All the numbers you have found are correct for different variations of the Tundra, CrewMax vs. Double Cab, 4WD vs. 2WD, etc. I believe the 8800 is for the smaller V8, the 9200 and 10200 are for the 5.7 in different configurations. Check your sticker for the final verdict.

Look at the sticker inside the driver door jamb. The toyota rating of 10200# is for a regular cab short bed truck.
Also a tundra has a low payload capacity, typically between 12-1300lbs. There are 6000lb campers that will cause the truck to exceed payload rating.
A campers hitch weight is an empty, without propane tanks, battery (s), or the weight distribution hitch. Those 3 items add around 200lbs, plus ten passengers in your truck, and gear. You could easily be down to 700lbs of payload left for the camper hitch weight.
Keep in mind your 2020 does not have the traditional air to fluid transmission radiator to keep trans fluid cooler (removing in 2019), so you could be running 260 degrees or more when towing. 302 degrees is the trans temp warning light setting.

Owners manual + door jamb stickers will answer your question, OP.

Found mine was TWR of 9800 lbs. after finding model code USK56L-PSTSKA (with Tow Package) on the door jamb and using the chart in the manual.

Thank you all! Called 2 dealers and got different answers, but looking at the sticker and checking the manual I'm at 9700lbs towing. Appreciate the help!

9400 lbs is a big trailer for a half ton. I wouldn’t want to take that on a long road trio in a tundra

What travel trailer are you buying?

9400 dry? Your tongue weight is gonna be over 1200 pounds and that’s pretty much all of your payload.

I'm not sure you followed what the guys were telling you. That max tow number only works in some mystical situation with some magic trailer.

The reality is that your travel trailer will most likely have a tongue weight over 12% the gvw of the trailer. You will be over weight on your rear axle and maybe your front with that big of a trailer. If it was a one time thing I would say go for it. You need a smaller trailer if you want to stay legal.

All you need to worry about is payload/tongue weight. If you in the green on those weights (taking into account all that you carry as mentioned above) you will be good to go. Actual tow capacity does not mean too much on a half ton truck because you run out of payload long before you hit the tow capacity.

It works if you're only towing the trailer and have no other stuff in the truck. So with 2 vehicles going the Tundra can take the trailer and the other can take all other people and gear. But the typical family taking 1 vehicle would run out of payload with a 6000 lb trailer roughly.

Not true because they are related and if towing capacity didn't matter, there wouldn't be a limit. The general rule is to have 10 -15% of the trailer weight on the hitch (the Tundra manual says no less than 9%). 9,700 x .09 = 873 lb, which means he would have very little cargo capacity left. I also agree with others - I think that would be too much trailer for a Tundra or any 1/2 ton. The issue is not just if the truck can handle it, it is a safety issue.
