Good day all. New member here. Not to get all into my business but, we built a new house (yes, in the crazy ATL and during the plandemic) so I’ve been driving cheap commuter vehicles to get us through closing on house. I’m a previous Toyota owner wanting to get back into one. Tundra preferably, need to move landscaping supplies. Nothing major, just Home owner. I’m closer to 50 now and want a big boy truck. Tacos, been there done that just, want full size v8. Issue is, soooo expensive. Not paying 40+ for a truck that will be treated like a truck (not a mall crawler). Even used with nearly 200k are going for 20k+. Should I wait until after November elections…? Not sure how economy will improve but just hopeful I guesS. Am I an idiot for spending 20k on a truck with 150k or even more? ….even if it’s a yota…. Example I see a tundra TSS but with 4x4 5.7 168k, they want 25k. Just seems crazy. Is it just me and I need to accept 35k or more for a decent mileage (around 100k)4x4 tundra? Or be patient and wait? Wow, that was long winded.

Air bags, ARK liners, misc bullshit added also
    The last of the v8's.
These have always held their value better then the big 3, in my opinion.
A low mileage Tundra right will bring above average pricing no matter what.
Waiting will add more miles to any used vehicle.
Terribly high resale value right now, though it seems to be cooling some but not a lot.

So cry now or cry later, that is decision you will have to make on your own.

The prices you listed don't seem to out of line, if asking for an opinion on them.

V8 Tundra is an old school work truck, not a glamour toy like most/all of its competitors. Or even that new V6 Tundra. I was so impressed with Tundra, that we got rid of wife's non-Tundra and got her the last Tundra SUV - a Sequoia :) The prices are ouch, but what can you do? They don't go back.

Well, why I came here. Didn’t think about the fact the v8 is not offered any longer so my options are going to get harder and fewer as time goes by. Guess I’ll research the last year of the 5.7 and work backwards to my price point. Thanks guys.

FYI, in 2019 they got rid of transmission aux.cooler. If you are planning to haul or simply drive it hot climate, you better get -2018 or invest some hundreds into cooling kit.

I bought a 2016 Limited DC in the fall of 2016 for $48,000 CAN, the dealer is offering me $40,000 trade in now I have 60,000 KM (36,000 miles), I'm not looking to trade now but was just checking while I was at the dealer for service. It is 100% stock and top shape, I drive a company vehicle for work.

A lot of the more expensive models will be the Crew Cab set up. If you're just using it for truck things, and not hauling people, limit your search to Double Cabs. Will save you $3-6k based on your location.

Appreciate the input. it’ll be people hauler, camping and typical weekender trips to the landscaping and big box stores. Got a dog and two kids for the back so was looking at the crew cab but nothing against and looking at the doubles too.

do you must have a Tundra? if being a Toyota is not a must then I'd shop around, specifically I'd look into Ram 1500 and Ram 1500 classic, I've spent significant amount of time in those trucks and they really are decent, specially the newer 1500, the interior is still the best.

Thanks input and not to sound like a jerk but I’m gathering you didn’t read the original post. No I don’t have a tundra. I’m here on tundra forum because I’m looking to buy a tundra.

I have experience with both. DC first, and now a CC. I much prefer the CC for my needs. If I need an extra 1' of bed space then I'm using a trailer anyway.

Lots of threads on "which is the best year 2.5 gen" with a 2018 seeming to be the sweet spot for truck stuff and grocery getting. a quick rundown:
2016 adds the 38 gal gas tank (a must, imo) on some trim/packages ("SR5 upgrade" being the requirement I believe).
2018 adds radar cruise, BSM, other nannies that some love, others hate. Also adds LED headlights (another must, imo). These can also be added to years 2014-2021 using @iHacker harness. He's got a big thread on it, very helpful.
2019 deletes the transmission cooler (which can be added back aftermarket with a kit found on this forum for several hundred dollars) which is probably a good idea if you're towing over 4k regularly and on hills, heat, etc.
2020 push button start on some trims, apple car play / android auto.

    Hope this helps

Yes, my statement is point at is buying a Tundra a must? if you want more bang for the dollars, there are better choices that will do everything you want for less.

3-5 year old tundra is about 2-3k cheaper then new one…

Lots of thinks are going to effect price. For example, right now there are two 2016 crew max availble within 30 miles. First one an SR5 with 98K is $27K w/ 4.6L V8. Second one is a limited, so trim upgrades and the 5.7L 158K miles and $30K.

Welcome to the forum and greetings from Minnesota. Toyota vehicles really hold their values if we’ll cared for. In April I sold my 2000 165,000 mile 4Runner for $12,500. Resale value will most likely outpace anything from the big 3. Stick with a 5.7, for proven reliability. Good luck with your search.
