That’s the question. I know that Toyota had a factory supercharger for this engine. But supercharging is just not fuel economical. But if this engine can get rammed full of supercharged boost why not ram it full of Turbo boost?
So has anyone got any info, threads, leads to this? Of course, V8 means twin exhaust,
So dual turbo set-up would be an acceptable idea too.

I've seen custom setups on youtube, I've only ever seen one kit here. I see you and I have the same truck, and they're pretty rare, so really obscure things like turbo kits etc are hard to find

Here's one video example of a custom setup here
Here's another one, this one is actually posted by @dirtydeeds so maybe Keith can chime in if he has a sec?

I have a friend who is much more of a tuner freak than I could ever be. He found me a complete kit that is actually pretty reasonable cost wise. Gave me some facts and knowledge to worry myself with.
    Here is what he sent.

I’m just having fun, the truck actually rips it up pretty fast. I’ve got the lowering kit and airbags on the shelf, just haven’t got to installing. Winter here, not so easy to work on stuff.
Monitoring AF ratio and computer interactions are where I have no experience.

4.7 has weak rods IIRC. Big limiting factor

Better to skip the turbo. You need power down deep like 1500 rpm and a t4 is pretty big. you're lucky there is a tuner for the vvti engines. I'd probably vote for a 50hp shot of nitrous or an engine swap if i needed more power. Theres an adaptor to run a cobra eaton, 509 garage or something. And a wailing blower would be more fun than more power anyway.

american engines had weaker rods, but i think crower has a set. They're 2 bolt mains though, so when the crank starts dancing things break in a hurry.

I'd give URD a call if you are serious about forced induction on a 4.7.

Toyota sold this motor with a factory Supercharger. Can't see them being too weak, unless that's why they
    discontinued that option.

If you look at some of the legacy Tundra forums it has been confirmed that they have weak rods.

You wont get 400 hp with a stock bottom end. Maybe 350, but not forever. Less than 300 is the sweet spot.

I haven't done any digging yet. This is just the beginning of the idea for me. Glad to see so much info is out there. Should have
figured there would be. I'm not building a hot rod, but the value for towing at highway speeds could be worth it. Lots of steep
stuff where I live, not any flat stuff.

From what I recall when I had my 1st gens, 00-02 tundra 4.7s were better for boost due to having stronger rods. I think they were built in Japan and the rods may have been forged. The 03+ 4.7s were made in the US and had weaker rods was my understanding. Someone on here had a custom turbo setup on their 1st gen 4.7, and ultimately switched to the supercharger when he got his hands on one and got better results.
