Hello all! This is my first post on this forum as I'm looking at potentially buying a new Tundra towards the very end of the year/early 2023. As my post states, I'm curious if a new Tundra Double Cab is big enough for my wife and myself along with our two dogs (a 45lb female goldendoodle and a 70lb and still growing brindle labmix) to travel in. I previously had a Tacoma Double Cab Off Road manual transmission with the TRD Lift Kit (2" Front, 1" rear) that we would take on some trips but knew that I wanted a bigger truck for more space and a better ride.

In my previous Tacoma I had a set up where the back seat was covered for the dogs. The goldendoodle doesn't like the labmix all up on her during a long ride so the width of the Tacoma Double Cab was the downfall there. I don't really care too much about the rear legroom as no people will ride back there but do want a relatively wide and deep seat for them to be comfortable and stacked on each other. I actually prefer the old school extended cab truck profile of the Access Cab in the new Tundra so that with being a few grand cheaper than a Crew Max would be a win for me.

After looking through probably 100+ pages of pictures here of the you folks posting your new trucks and some with aftermarket lifts/wheels I have sketched out some ideas on what I would want to do to it the very first few days of owning it: 2" or so lift and a nice suspension set up for on road comfort and some light trails/fire roads; I assume Fox is the way to go with that. So since I'm def doing a lift/suspension and meatier tires, I think the best looking spec for the price is a decently equipped Access Cab TRD Sport 4x4 that is around $50K even. If this were our only vehicle I'd probably veer towards a Platinum Crewmax but we have a one year old Mazda CX-9 Signature that my wife drives with me; the Tundra will be for some off the beaten path trips, occasional trips to the woods, and some trips to the river in kayaks.

Looking forward to hearing y'alls feedback on an Access Cab might fit our lifestyle!

Plenty of room. I load up with 2 adults, 1 (13 y/o) child, and 1 (80lbs) dog in my 2018 double cab. No one is cramped at all.

Just traveled to OBX with my wife, two Goldens, and a terrier. Fit fine. I am in a Crewmax, but can't be that much different.

Thanks! My thought is that other than floorboard leg room, there won't be any difference to the seat cushion width and depth between a DC and CM.

I put down a pet seat protector on the back seats with a big square dog bed from Costco. Both Goldens stayed there. I was able to use the foot area for excess storage. The terrier just laid at my wife's feet.
