So I ordered the part and clamps. I was going to do it myself but since im getting an oil change I figured I would ask how much extra it would cost to have them do it. They quoted me at $110 saying it would take an hour to bleed the system so there’s no air pockets. I declined.

my question is this necessary and if so how do you do that? I thought all I had to do was open the drain cock to remove maybe a half gallon. Remove and replace upper hose. Top off coolant and run engine. Top off again.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I did this a couple years back, while I cleaned out my radiator fins (due to dirt/mud build up).
If memory serves, I removed the battery, which gave me extra space to work.
Undo the hose at the top. Drain what’s in it, or however much comes out.
remove the bottom clamp/hose. Replace the hose, clamp bottom. Refill in the hose, the fluid that you drained (as much as you can). Reattach top hose/clamp. Top off as needed.
    Good luck!
