    Hello

My oldest son started his first career job a few months back as a Fireman. It’s time for him to retire his tired old CRV.

he has found a 2012 Tundra Crewmax with the 5.7 flex fuel in it. Has about 123,000 miles on it. It is in decent condition and drives good.

Toyota dealer is asking $19,000, but I think they’d probably take a couple thousand less. A couple thousand less seems reasonable to me given it’s condition and mileage.

Is there any reason you all can think he should avoid this truck?

No need to avoid it just check for cam tower leaks , I think that’s the only major thing and maybe the bed for rust spots .

Tell your son to record the VIN, go to Toyota.com>Owners>My Vehicle>Join Now>(Create Account)>"Service History" or "Vehicle Specs". That should tell him the history of any service or maintenance done at Toyota dealers, or the factory specifications of the Tundra regards options, etc.

    Ok. Thanks. Both helpful advice.

I’ll check into the cam towers and look into the owners site.

I am aware of the air injection pump issue, but it sounds like there are effective bypass kits available.

Price seem fair? I know that can be very regional dependent.

What is the trim level? Sounds a bit high to me for a truck with 123,000. What is decent condition? "Like New""Good""Fair" or "Meh"

What dude said, def check on the Toyota Owners website with the VIN. Did that with the 2018 I just bought and found 3 open recalls when the dealership was being sheisty about not giving me a link to the carfax/autocheck (kept printing it and taking a page out thinking I dont know how to read I guess)
Also, check KBB.com and NADA.com for ballpark average pricing.

"What are you hauling there son?" "ass"
I think you are on the right track. 123k basically just rolled off the lot when you’re getting into the Tundra. Also definitely buy older that 5 years as many of the 17, 18, 19s basically carry the same price tag as a new one but they have miles and dings.

That price is totally fair in my opinion if it’s a good truck with a good service history.

It has a consistent service history at the dealer that is selling it. Regular oil changes every 5000-7500 miles. More frequently every 5000.
Looked at the service records in the owners site. There were several records. None of which were alarming.

trim is SR5. I would say exterior is in very good condition. Interior is in above average condition.

They recently did an ECU update for the air pumps. Not sure exactly what the update does, but son plans to possibly install bypass kit.

Have you shopped to see if an original, or second owner is selling one for less locally?

I used these sites and entered the exact Tundra I was looking at to get an idea of what other trucks in the exact same config were going for. Helped for a little leverage but unfortunately the truck I wanted was rare af and they knew what they had so I paid for it..
