Hey guys, I hate to admit this but, yesterday I left my E brake on drove my truck around 20 mins at the most. I prob went anywhere from 40-60 mph while it was on. Now im having some real vibration after getting into that mph range.

I have mud terrains (275 60 20) that make a sound obviously but this is drowning the sound of my tires out believe it or not.

I drove to work today on the interstate and it hasnt gotten any better. Any idea what the hell I did? Does the E brake lock both rear tires down or just the driver side?

could have one of the brakes hanging on the rotor....can happen when brakes get overheated. If so, the brake will not fully disengage, so you are feeling some potential warp in the effected rotors. Pull the rear wheels and see if you can see any issues- check for warping. That would be my guess.

Thanks for the reply, The dealer I bought this truck from replaced the brakes and the rotors a couple months back. It's gonna suck if I have to replace again.

After driving home from work it looks like it's only happening at the 50mph range and then continues up into the 60's. This started happening after I rode with my ebrake on for about 20-30 mins the other day and I deff went above 50 at some point. My ebrake barely works though it seems like. It does show some resistance but not much.

It doesn't happen when I brake only when I'm accelerating it seems. This literally started happening after I rode with the Ebrake on for that time period. Brake rotors I thought would show these symptoms with braking not accelerating? Can anyone else chime in?

I had this happen to me a few months ago. Parked on a hill used e brake then down the road it did a vibration like i thought something was wrong with the drive line. I applied the e brake at every stop i made for at least 10 or so then it went away idk if it will happen again because I don't want to try lol. Indiana is flat for the most part.

Yeah I have applied the Ebrake on and off afterwards and it hasn't fixed the issue. The brakes aren't dragging I tested this when I got home the tire will free spin smooth.

I work all weekend so I'm gonna have to wait till Monday to take the tire off and access what's wrong. It could deff be a warped rotor but the only reason I'm having doubt about that is it doesn't really vibrate when braking only when I'm accelerating between like 45-65. It just doesn't make sense that it started happening literally right after I realized my ebrake was on the whole trip!!

That is very strange I can't think of anything else it would be. Unless some how it put stress on the drive shaft and messed with the carrier bearing but that doesn't sound right. Maybe its a wheel weight came off and a rear wheel is off balance.

I'll look into that. All the symptoms point toward tires/wheels being unbalanced. I guess I need to ask if leaving the Ebrake on and driving 30 mins or so can effect tire wheel balance that drastically? I am 100% positive my truck wasn't vibrating like this before I left that damn Ebrake on

my truck used to vibrate at 80 kmph, stop around 85 and start again at 100 .. same speed ranges you're feeling it. my tires went out of balance bc one of the weights fell off. probably worth having them checked for the price it costs to have it done before you start throwing other parts or looking for more expensive diagnosis

Sounds like a plan, Im new to this I started doing extensive research on vehicles about 8 months ago and bought a truck and started becoming a sponge. I have yet to come across this. I'm assuming this is very common. What weight are you guys referring too? I have never noticed any kind of weights on my wheels or tires lol prolly a DA moment for me.

haha they're wheel weights. just small lead weights that they put on when they balance your tires. they're on every wheel, right where the rubber meets the rim. they put them on in specific locations to balance the wheels out so they don't spin off balance. take a look, you'll find them. and if you don't have and then that's definitely the problem haha

The weights are glued to the backside of the rim, maybe the excessive heat from having the e-brake on that long might have loosened up the adhesive on the weights...:monocle:

Another thing a belt inside the tire could be bad but I would think you would feel that almost all the time.

Speaking of tires you talk about disappointing I got a 22" tire i just had replaced that was bad from the factory. Out of round i didn't even know that happens. I do now. It shook the hole bed of my truck bad.@45 mph

Thanks for the help, I literally had no idea lol. You learn something new everyday. I'm assuming if this is my problem, it will be a lot easier to fix than rear rotor replacement and brakes like I was planning on doing. I'll go to my local tire shop and get them to look at it Monday. I'm assuming this isn't safe for a interstate commute now.

Just drive it 90 its fine haha honestly I would get down there on the back side of each wheel. If a weight came off you will still see where it was. There will still be like paper or sticky stuff left on the wheel .

id try to keep it below the 45-60 mph range if you can get there on a different road.. I'm not sure how bad your vibrations are but if its drowning out your road noise from your tires I can imagine its on the extreme side. might end up damaging something else if you run it too long in that range

Because I know alot of guys that have custom wheels some of them carry wheel weights with them in there trucks. They fly off a 24" wheel all the time in the summer. Not sure why. They just mark it on the wheel where they are and stick the same amount back on and off they go lol.

Damn haha and thanks for the advice 5ive7even.
That's crazy I'm gonna have to start doing that I have
Kanati mud hogs on my 2007 tundra 5.7. I literally got this tires mounted at a shop right at closing time during the worst part of the covid shit down hell they did it so fast I was expecting something to be wrong. It makes sense now that something could be off with the wheel/tires.

First don't think its your tires, it was running fine before you left your hand brake on Right,????? First you don't have to replace your rotors, you can take them off take them to a shop and they can inspect them and turn the rotors, second i think you might have glazed your pads, what happen then is your brakes will start to stick, now this is only my guess.

Wonder if it's cheaper to just replace the rotors? I can get full rear set and pads for $140. I can do the job myself. I was thinking I glazed them as well. I been waiting for the glaze to wear off but it still doing it 3 days later. Do you know how long it generally takes the glaze to wear off?

Thats entirely up to you. Glaze to wear off i can't answer that, brakes are something i don't procrastinate with, its the most important component of your car or truck, $140 for pads, or a $40,000 totaled truck if something happens. But hey thats just me,

The rear e brake pads are inside the rear rotor center like a drum break. Most likely need to replace those pads.

Thanks for the blue print csu, I will deff look to get those replaced asap.

Just a quick update I got into the truck this morning and same thing occuring again. Exactly at the 50 mph mark the vibrating starts in the steering wheel and under my driver seat. It will last upward to 60-65 and I don't wanna push it any further. It doesn't happen at all while braking. Only when I'm pressing the gas. Thank you for your time guys!

Hey guys, It looks like im missing one wheel weight on the driver side rear. I guess my next question is (because im green on wheel weights) would missing just one wheel weight cause this much vibration under the seat and in the steering wheel between 50-65 mph? If so that blows my mind and is hard for me to wrap my head around.

Edit: by one wheel weight I mean just one square is missing and I can see the adhesive that was left behind after I melted it off.

Then you are in luck, just get the wheel rebalanced.

Nice thank you. Im kinda weird in a sense that i dont like other ppl touching my truck when i can help it. Can I buy a pack of wheel weights and then replace the one that fell off and have some spares like Mnorris stated above, or should I go in and get them all looked at for rebalance since I drove on it for 3 days?
