Wow. That’s a bunch of miles. I can’t help but wonder if it pencils out economically to drive a tundra all those miles. Back of the napkin math time! So, at a million miles, on a vehicle getting 12mpg or so (that’s a little better than what I get) you’re looking at 83k gallons of gas or so. At an average gas price of $3.25 a gallon (current average in the USA) that’s what, $270k on gas? One wonders if it would have made more sense, economically, to have a hybrid Prius or something to deliver parts at 50mpg.

He hot shots heavy equipment and has reported being over payload at times. Not sure a Prius fits the bill.

He is a hot shot driver. I doubt a prius will have the payload to deliver the loads he requires.

All I saw was “parts delivery”. Most of my parts delivery’s were done via a Tacoma,
Interestingly enough, but most of what he was delivering was small enough for a Prius.

Now if he was hot shotting heavy equipment now he’s looking at 8mpg with a tundra and double that with a diesel. It changes the math a bit.

If he was over payload even once, which he admitted to, it completely disqualifies the Prius.

How hard is it to " over payload" a Tundra?

Not hard at all...according to the owners manual.

I want to know what Shepherd thinks "over payload" is.

I bet it's a lot more than what's printed on the door frame.

Like double the payload. He mentioned regularly carrying 2700 lb in the bed.

Ha. We’re worried about being a few hundred pounds over payload going across town while this guy put more miles on a Tundra at double the payload than any of us will ever even drive ours in total.

Been wondering how long it would take for him to do it again.

Not surprised how long it took to turn this in to a ‘payload safety’ thread…

Not bad considering the dude is huge, and he was probably reclining it for some shut eye at highway rest stops on a daily basis.

This is very anecdotal, though. Those are generally going to be highway miles, so maintained and paved. Put that same weight in it and then go blasting 55 MPH down washboards, pot holes, and such like lots of people "overlanding" do. It's two very different applications.

Look at the Chevy Colorado that bent his frame years back with a trailer that was within the limits of his truck. He was going over rough terrain and the bouncing stresses totaled his frame, but he was under payload and towing capacity.

Y'all overlooked the fact it's the same guy doing it.... I wonder if Toyota gives him another truck? They should considering the last one was a different engine.

They give him another, and yes, we know it’s the same guy. He’s done it in a 4.7, will likely do it in the 5.7. Perfect candidate for a 3.4TT mileage run.

Well, I don't think Toyota is ready for a longevity test on the newer platform until they get the bugs worked out

    I did some rough maths:

    that's ~300 miles a day or more.

    towing/hauling

that's just the pure definition of severe duty.

and I clutch my pearls over having a S/C on my truck and driving it like it's made of glass.
