Eyeball the line you want to cut on the bumper. Then cut the support behind it so you can’t see it. No tips. I slapped tape on the bumper and sent it.

So I've decided to post here some info that might help others with the viper cut, it's very simple:

I bought plastic endcaps as I though they would be easier to cut with a Dremel. Not a fan of the angle grinder to cut metal, that's just me.

I used 1/4" 3m fine line tape. The line under the fog light is to match the space on the top of the fog light. All blue tape markings are measured to the edge of the green masking tape.

Note: I did cut on the other edge of the masking tape, so you could add 1/4" to all measurements to get my results.
    Photo Oct 02 2022, 1 08 03 PM.jpg

    Photo Oct 02 2022, 1 08 08 PM.jpg

Then for the curve, I just used a roll of tape and a pencil to mark the curve

    Photo Oct 02 2022, 1 15 36 PM.jpg

    Photo Oct 02 2022, 1 15 31 PM.jpg

    The Result:

    Photo Oct 02 2022, 4 58 38 PM.jpg

    Photo Oct 02 2022, 4 57 59 PM.jpg

Makes fitting 37s much easier! I still need to trim the metal endcap bracket so you can't see it and I plan on using paint matched bumper covers and edge trim to make it look nicer.

I’m really curious as to how this would look with either 275/70 or even 295/70 tires with factory wheels. I know it’s pointless for clearance on those sizes but it’s worth an ask.

Here are some more shots of the completed cuts:

I still need to prime/ paint some areas where I cut away steel. I plan on filling where the bumper bar is visible to give a more finished look.

That really does look great. Any steps in the process that were harder than expected, or anything you know now that would’ve been useful?

I would say take your time on the layout. You could even cut a bit shy of your cut line if you aren’t as steady with a grinder and then buff down to the line. Otherwise I tried to keep the lines flowing and look as professional and ‘oem’ as I could.

My assumption here is that I can, more or less, choose my own lines to cut so as to tweak the flow a bit here and there. Is there anything behind the bumper that I need to be careful of? I understand we only have so much space to work with because we’ll lose the fog light if we want to cut any higher.

when done correctly you can use the plastic trim and leave an inch longer so when you push the fender liner forward and zip tie to fog light bracket, then inner fender well still looks factory

Went ahead and did the damn thing. I was more aggressive with the verticals cut and moved it inward toward the center of the truck more. This exposed the silver structural portion of the bumper, which will now need to be painted black to avoid it catching the eye as it drives by. Edge trim will arrive tomorrow. 8046A29F-27FE-4BB3-B611-28E91AFFCD95.jpgB918A08E-D410-4CA0-B75E-DFFFA4D0BD97.jpg97B96FCF-E3B6-442F-BFBB-E923943743E5.jpg9215479D-A4D4-4CBC-A1A0-F8EE69BC880E.jpg
