The volume on my unit is not very loud, even when maxed out. This is a big change from how loud it would get previously.
Until recently I never had it up more than about 1/2 way. Now at this level (1/2 way) you can barely hear the radio at all.
Everything is completely stock. Nothing has been added or changed. What could have caused this? Any ideas?

Do you have the factory amp under the passenger seat? Could be a blown fuse for that. I forgot to hook up the amp turn on lead for it when I put in my Pioneer HU and wondered why it had no nuts at first. Does it sound like it's only coming from the dash speakers?

Yes, pretty much sounds like that. I’ll check for a blown fuse or loose wire in the morning. Thanks for your help

This ^^^. A paired phones "volume" is actually an output for the head units input. Again, as mentioned, make sure the phone volume is set to max. for paired music.

Yep, I thought of that and tried it with the iPod and the radio. Same problem with any source

I would bet on the amp. If all the wiring is good and the amp is blown I bet you can find a OEM pretty easy. I have one sitting in my garage right now. Better yet just replace with a PNP aftermarket and update speakers later.

Is there a fuse specifically for the amp? Do you know the location?

We had a 2011 Camry in the shop recently. Same symptoms - with the volume maxed out you could barely hear any audio. At first we suspected the factory amp, but believe it or not the OEM head unit ended up being bad. We replaced with the Alpine W650 and respective PAC interface module and had great sounding audio again.

In the fuse and relay box under the hood there's a 30A fuse labeled AMP. Here is the lid diagram on my 2018, but may be different on yours

Not much help here but enjoy reading @gosolo 's post in Dale Gribble's voice (in my head).....

    My guesses are:
-volume knob - somehow not working correctly, probably not fix. Have you tried turning knob with pressure on it? Inward, towards a side, up or down?
    -faulty amp

Not sure how to troubleshoot either.

Would think any blown fuse would result in NO output. Also if blown fuse then something caused it to blow; completely stock system - something no Bueno.....

    Good Luck!

I thought the same when I had swapped my head unit, but apparently the dash speakers/tweeters run direct off the deck and the door woofers are powered by the amp. At least that's what I could gather from the behavior with the amp off.

Agreed, if the fuse blew for some reason, something else is probably going on.

Found the fuse, took it out and put it back in. Wiggled wires at the amp, nothing visible that’s loose.
Tried audio and problem has vanished. Don’t know how or why.

Seems like many times in my life I’ve had a malfunction with an appliance or piece of equipment and taking it apart and reassembling it was a cure for no apparent reason.

Thanks for your support and input

Are you using the USB for music from your ipod/phone? If you are, make sure the volume is max, if the phone’s or iPod’s volume is low the volume over the truck’s radio will not be as loud.

When you pulled the fuse it most likely reset the amp. There might be a capacitor that was holding a charge and when you pulled the fuse it allowed it to fully discharge. If that is the case the issue might come back again. If it does that take it to the dealership and let try them figure it out. If they can't, repeat what you did in front of the tech and they might warranty out the unit. I know your truck is a 15 but still worth a try.

Damn! I have a 2020 platinum w/jbl and have the same issue (connected iPod with usb @ full volume and sometimes it sounds plunder than others so odd. I also tried Bluetooth with my iPhone and same issue sounds great at first then after a while of driving sound starts dying down.

I know I'm jumping on an old thread, but I'm in the same boat have a 2021 tundra with the JBL sound system, the finish is the 1794 edition, I don't know if that changes anything on the sound system, but it is very low volume. Phone is up all the way, when Pandora puts on old tunes, it's super low volume, I can get that as it's an old recording, but modern stuff is just at a super low volume. Same with smx. Any fresh thoughts on this issue?

In my former life I had problem with my daughter blasting her music in the house all the time. Couldn t get her to stop, so one day while she was at school, I got a piece of aluminum foil and loosly wrapped it around a headphone jack, and stuck it in the jack plug-in a way that it would stay in the hole. When she turned it on, could barely hear it in speakers. In hindsight it was dirty trick, but damn:annoyed:

Has anyone figured out a fix action for this, I’m having the same problem with my 2021 Platinum. Before I take it to Toyota was hoping to find something on here.

So I went to https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates/download followed the instructions and updated my entune radio firmware. They came out with 2 new firmware updates recently. This improved the overall sound for my truck, but I'm still having an issue with the phone call being quiet (whether bluetooth or cable/carplay doesn't matter) and the Waze playing through one speaker in the driver door quietly. When bluetooth is active the Waze voice can be heard through the main speakers loud and perfectly. So this is an issue with the carplay, but yet the calling problem is a problem through both multimedia platforms.

I have increased all volumes that I can on the phone and in the apps and the systems. I have also increased the in-call voice to max and it is still hard to hear a call.

    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried force closing Waze or switching to another nav app? I’ve had problems where Waze notifications hijacks the audio and attenuates everything. Uninstalling and reinstalling tends to fix it when this happens after an update.

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling on my phone. Stupid question, but there's not anyway to actually install and uninstall apps through the radio is there? It should just be apps from my phone in projection mode right?
