    Just a few SR5 add-ons
Hello. My first post to the forum. This is my go-to for anything Tundra. The information has been priceless.

I have a 2010 CrewMax Tundra Grade. I currently have 18" wheels with 275/65 R18 tires and they simply don't fit with the size of the Tundra (too small). The ride is pleasant, although it seems floaty.

Since my tires need to be replaced, I figured this is a good time to change to an 18" rim with 32 or 35 tires OR 20" rims with 32,33, or 35 tires.

This is where the Forum members come in. I researched this til the cows come home, and the more I researched this, the more confused I got.

I am struggling with the following rim and tire sizes:

    - 20x10 Moto Metal MO970 Black Wheels 35" MT Tires 5x150
    - 20x9 Moto Metal MO970 Black Wheels 32" Falken AT3 Tires 5x150
    - 35" - 35x12.50R18 Nitto Recon tires. Fuel Assault rims.

A major consideration is that I do not want to lift the Tundra or start removing panels or cutting into them or the bumper.

Thanks in advance for your help and sorry for the lengthy post!

32" is stock tire size diameter. You won't get 35's under it without a lift.

With no lift, keep the 32" factory tire size and you won't have to cut things up. That assumes you don't go with the 20 x 10" wheels as they may stick out depending on offset and contact the inner fenders during turns. If you plan to lift the front, 33 tires will easily fit with a mild front lift. The key to not rubbing has more to do with wheel choice. High offset wheels that stick out rub more. Stay close to factory spec for offset and you should have no problem. If this is all confusing it's because the possible combinations of setups is numerous. Go back to the threads that show people with their setups and find one that mimics what you would like with no cutting or rubbing. Your gonna end up with a 32-33" tire on a 9" wide rim with a mild or near factory offset. Good luck!

Correct or a sharp saw blade and itchy trigger finger.

275/70r18 tire size is the max you can go on a stock suspension without cutting into the truck. Maybe will have to mold fender panels/mudflaps a little with a heat gun but thats where you'll end up.

18" wheels come in 18x8 60mm offset (stock). 18x9 +25mm offset is known as the "sweet spot" around here for our trucks. (lower the offset, the more molding/ trimming/cutting may be required). You'll want something with a 5x150mm bolt pattern.

    Happy hunting.

Leave 20" for kids, AT tires on 18" steel wheels is what grownups choose ;)

I'd start with mounting 275/70R-18 General Grabber A/TX on your steelies. They look badass enough and don't rub anything. General has this size in P-rating (not LT), which helps quite a bit with the ride comfort, unless you have offroading plans for your truck. Speedometer will be right on spot.

Remove the fender flares and here what it will look like.

Hi. Still on my odyssey for rims and or tires. Vtl suggestion seems closest. P-rated tires would be outstanding.

Anyway, I called the local 4x4 performance shop and asked for a quote for a level. I explained 100K on the Tundra and would like to keep expenses minimal. The service writer asked if he could quote tires and rims. They sent this to me. Egad...

It's been said before so I'll try and keep this short. DO NOT use that shop for anything. EVER.

If I were you I'd be shopping tire rack or a similar national retailer that can ship wheels and tires to a local shop for instal. Or just call a few local shops that you hear good things about. This gives you the chance to compare prices of the wheel/tire combo you're looking at. Either way contact your shop of choice for a quote on bilstein 5100 shocks to get a subtle lift when used on second clip setting. They will also take away that floaty feeling of stock shocks. You can add 5100's in the rear as well to firm up the ride even more. You can also ask the shop if they allow you to supply your own parts and bring in the 5100's that you can likely find cheaper on the intraweb. I'd also Keep the 18" wheel size and 285/70/18 tires. I personally like this ride over a smaller sidewall tire and bigger wheel combo. 35's look great on the tundra but not at all necessary if you're not wheeling, or willing to do a bigger lift and or chop some stuff. Take all this with a grain of salt though and get the look and performance out of your wheel & tire combo for the type of use that benefits you most.

Thanks, Oldguy03. I will heed the advice of yourself and others on the Bilsteins, wheels, and tires. And yes, that shop. Ha.

I will post some pics when I finish this phase of my upgrades. Thanks a bunch for all the help!

Hi. To continue my tire/rim journey, I purchased a set of adjustable Bilstein B8/5100 shocks. To get level, I need to go up 3", but I'll settle for 2" and use the middle settings as suggested by others. My question now becomes what rim and tire size. I prefer an 18" X9 rim with a minimum +35mm offset. A 305 would be ideal for the tire size, but I may push it without hacking into the Tundra. A 285 or 295 would suffice. Again, I don't want to tear things out or cut into the Tundra.

I appreciate the advice of the experts. The issue becomes I want to order these online but would hate to get the new tire and rim and have to hack into my wheel wells, bumper, etc. Heat molding: I can live with it.

    Thanks once again.

Unless you have lift blocks or aftermarket shackles in the rear, to level your truck you only need to raise the front end 2". 3" & up is where things start getting more involved. Differential drop, new UCAs, etc.

For your tire inquiry, a lot of guys run "skinny 35's" on stock OEM 18"x8" wheels and 2" "level" without any trimming or cutting. The size is a 285/75r18; On an 18x9" wheel and a 2" level those tires would look pretty massive and may not involve any trimming or cutting but possibly some heat molding. The 305's are super wide (unnecessarily, IMO for our trucks) but if thats the look you want, you're probably going to have to do some cutting. :sawzall:

So, I finally made a move on the mods I've been talking about for months. Thanks again for the help from the forum. I decided on:

    1. Bilstein 5100 front shocks, set to the middle position
    2. XD 778 Monster wheels, 18X9, 35mm offset
    3. Nitto Recon Grappler 285/70/R18 tires

No mods were required. The Tundra drives like a dream. Firm ride, no more "float." A few pics are below. Tundra after Discount Tire mount.jpg Tundra 3.jpg Tundra 4.jpg full appreciation of the before and after:
