Back in August of '22, when I purchased my '22 Tundra, the Toyota dealer that I purchased from required you to purchase $7500 in add-ons, in place of adding a dealer mark-up (which most dealers in my area were doing at that time). One of these add-ons was a PermaPlate windshield replacement plan with a $5000 maximum lifetime benefit value...

Fast forward to about a month ago, and a rock cracked my windshield, just after I added the 3" TRD lift kit to my Tundra. I filed a claim with PermaPlate, and they assigned my claim to Safelite. My replacement windshield finally arrived there last week, and I had an appointment yesterday to have it replaced. As soon as I arrived at Safelite, the tech told me that they could not handle the windshield replacement, because of the lift on my truck (they said they wouldn't be able to calibrate the camera correctly with the lift), and I'd have to have the insurance company move my claim to a dealer. After a couple of calls with PermaPlate, I've now been told that my contract was voided when I put the lift on the truck, and they'd only honor it if I took the lift off. At that point, I asked for a refund on the plan, and they told me that it is non-cancellable and non-refundable. The supervisor, that I spoke to, said she would try to "see what they could do" through "goodwill funds" as a one-time thing. I haven't heard anything back yet, and I'm not holding my breath.

The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is do not buy a plan from PermaPlate if you have any inkling that you might want to lift your Tundra during the 5 years that the plan runs, and I'm pissed off about this enough that I will not ever do business with PermaPlate again.

It is - or, sort of, insurance. In my case, sold as a 5 year, zero deductible windshield replacement plan.

What a scam! What the dealership has to say about it?

We'll see... I'm already at my limit, today. Will deal with them next week.

Being that you installed the Toyota develped and approved lift kit, that’s complete BS. The dealer has the capacity to properly calibrate the camera. If a body shop can’t program a sensor, does it mean the insurance company denies the claim!? No, the programming just gets subbed out. I would definitely fight that considering you have a factory accessory installed.

Doesn't your "regular" Auto Insurance include full glass coverage?

I would question how they can void your contact warranty for factory installed components, lifted or not the manufacturer offers the kit and also provided the needed calibration information to adjust those cameras on lifted vehicles.

Seems like the either the safelight tech is being lazy or that aftermarket warranty has some bad and or illegal stipulations in their contract.
