Dealer telling me $2675 for a 5yr 60000 mile platinum 0 deductible. Not sure you can negotiate this price. I have a 2018 tundra with 45000 miles I just bought. I have a couple of days to decide if I want it.
    Thanks

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! That sounds awfully high to me. Others here may chime in with better alternatives.

I was unaware that you could buy a warranty outside of 3year/36,000 miles. I bought mine from a dealership out of state. I believe it was Elite Toyota. message gamester over there

    You can probably negotiate.
They are already trying to screw you with that "you only have a couple days to decide".
    Salesman pressure tactics.
Make them a counter offer, maybe $2K, all they can do is say no.

I'd find out when the truck was first sold, I think that is when the warranty starts for them.
    I could be wrong tho.

For what it is worth, I bought an ext warranty, 6 years 75K miles, for my 2005 when it was new.
Never used it, didn't have any issues until the air pump went out at 96K miles.
Kept the truck for 10 years and 120K miles.

I bought a 7 year 75K mile ext warranty for my 2014 when new.
I just hit 75K miles (in 6 years) and never used it.
Looking back, I should have negotiated 7 year 100K miles for the same price.

Back then I didn't have much savings so the ext warranty made sense.
When and if I buy another Tundra, I'll probably skip it.

    Obviously, YMMV..

    Welcome to the forum...

For me, if it was a new truck I wouldn't do it. However, given the mileage, assuming it will be 5 years from now when the warranty ends and it's bumper-to-bumper, it might be worth considering. Repair/replacement of any fancy electronics on the newer Tundras can be very expensive and burn through $2.5K pretty quick.

Hi . Thanks for your response. Toyota does sell a platinum and a gold extended warranty for vehicles outside of the standard 3yr-36000. ( non certified vehicles) I called an out of state dealership and they could only sell a warranty on a Toyota that is still under the 3yr -36000 factory warranty . You can buy them across state lines, but the dealership is not allowed to “solicit” out of state business . You have to inquire about it. But For some reason they can not sell a used vehicle “platinum”warranty out of state you have to get it from the state your vehicle is registered in. That’s why it’s hard finding cost on a Toyota factory extended warranty on used Toyota’s. I did get 3 prices from Pa. dealers all were within a couple of hundred dollars of each other. These dealer stick together in state. I know mark up is high on warranty’s just wondering what is a good price to counter offer them. I don’t mind them making a couple of hundred dollars I just don’t want to be price gouged. Any thoughts.
    Thanks

It is highly frowned upon for an out of state dealer to sell the actual Toyota Platinum extended warning. I do not want to post their name to get them in trouble, but if you search in here, their name is listed several times.

In order to purchase the Toyota extended warranty, you do have to purchase it before the 3yr./36k full factory warranty is up.

As for price, you are about twice as much as what people are paying for the full 125k mike warranty.....

We own a 4Runner also so all I can say is the thread on the 4Runner forum will be a great lead, as I followed the hints and pot of gold over there for our 4Runner.;)

Warranty price varies from dealer to dealer. You may not have any negotiating power because F & I pay plans can be tailored on a per copy average sale, so if it hurts them to sell it for less they wont discount it.

I bought the extended warranty for my 2016 and came out very well. A filter down under the fuel filler neck went out causing a “Warning Will Rogers” light to come on. The filter failed from a few over filings and the fuel ran down the neck and onto the filter. Guess the engineer threw back too many sakis coming up with that placement. Anyway, it was a $700.00 filter plus labor. Then at about 56k miles the alternator starting howling like scalded ass cat. That was another major expense that would have been out of pocket had I not had the warranty. I’m just too old and mechanically deficient to mess with stuff today. Now give me a 62 Chevy six banger and we got some hot rodding to do.

    Lots of shenanigans.
All of the vehicles come with a 3 year/36k basic warranty and a 5 year/60k powertrain warranty. I'm a gambling man and don't ever purchase any warranties/ GAP insurance. It may just be a little over 2k but that's also without interest (which would add up). My thoughts are that i can probably fix it myself and dealerships usually try to avoid fixing things. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks guys for your input. I countered the offers from 2 different dealers they wouldn’t come down to what I offered. Going to come up a bit at another dealer to see if they’ll take my offer. This warranty is for a truck with 45533 miles . Toyota does offer a platinum and a gold warranty for vehicles out of the standard warranty 3yr 36000. Platinum can be 3yr -36000 4yr 50000 or 5 yr with 60000 miles. 0 deductible It starts the day you purchase the warranty. So if I have 45000 on it now it will be covered to 105000 miles or 5 yr. from date of warranty purchase.

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a platinum 5 yr 60000 0 deductible for my 2018 tundra with 45000 miles. I called several dealers and got one down to $2000. It started around $2695. It’s just piece of mind for me and is transferable when and if I sell it. Also it’s prorated so if you never use it they will buy it back. Warranty starts at the time of purchase of the warranty.
