purchased my 2020 tundra from my local Toyota dealer about 2 months ago. It was gold certified pre-owned, so it carries a 12 month comprehensive warranty. I also purchased a 7 year or 75,000 mile platinum warranty (I like warranties).

I’ve brought the truck into service several times already for them to address issues I found that I would like rectified. I’m sorry, but if you charge top dollar for a used truck and give me a 12 month comprehensive warranty, I’m going to use it to its full extent.

dealer called me today and would like to offer me a lifetime powertrain warranty in exchange for my 12 month comprehensive warranty. I’m assuming because im activating their almonds with all of my complimentary service appointments.

my question is, why does this matter to them if i already have a platinum warranty as well? Is it just to save them selves from possible wear and tear items that i find, or do they foot the bill for the gold certified repairs and the platinum warranty repairs is on Toyota’s dime?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, didn’t really think it fit in any section, but I was hoping someone here would have some input.

IDK much about warranties cuz I never fall for them. But isn’t a certified used Toyota warranty through Toyota. So I don’t get how they could just swap your warranty.

regardless the only reason they’d offer is if they have something to gain. No way they are just looking to do things that will give you the customer the edge.

All wear and tear so far basically. Brakes, alignment, cabin and engine air filter etc… All shit that they claimed they did before selling, but definitely didn’t. They did fix them, but with some pushback.

Exactly, I know whatever their plan, it’s not for my benefit.

Yup that's a foul. Probably why I will never purchase another vehicle from a Toyota dealer.

Yeah I sure learned my lesson. Next time I’ll go private sale or off-brand dealer, get a good PPI done and save some money. The truck is in great condition, it’s just everything they claimed to have done for due maintenance and cpo refurbishment, wasn’t done.

When I got my 2015 with 166,000 miles, I told the salesman I had to have some kind of warranty to make me confident on the purchase.
I was given in writing "30 day, 1000 mile all lubricated parts" warranty. That gave me time to more fully inspect the truck away from the dealer.
The guy doing the paperwork said that was a new one on him but added it to the paperwork.
    Never needed it.

I like my warranty. Got the truck new and purchased their “full wrap” warranty. Sure it was a little overpriced but it covers full bumper to bumper for lifetime with no mileage limits. As long as I own the truck in my name, it’s valid. $100 deductible. Used it earlier this year on some things when I had my fuel pump tsb performed. Already got my moneys worth out of it. Depends on the warranty to me.

A 2020 would have already been 4 years old. To buy the Toyota extended warranty would need to be within 3 years and 36k miles. So the last one to qualify would have been made in September 2021, and that was also the last month the 2.5 gen were produced before starting production on the 2022 after September 2021. So whatever warranty you got was through the dealership.

The wear and tear items aren’t warrantied. I see ur point about it not being done prior, but that’s separate from the warranty deal. That’s just a “you said u all did this and this and it wasn’t done” thing so fix it.

The gold certified warranty and the extended warranty (if a Toyota warranty) has nothing to do with the dealership. They submit claims via an online portal and Toyota makes the decision. Shame on them if they didn't go over it well but like they said above, wear and tear items are not covered. The certified warranty is actually pretty good and if you paid for an extended warranty from TFS, it's exactly the same.

Yes, everything that I had them do so far, they had claimed to do before sale and also reported to carfax that it was done before sale. I just associated it with being gold certified because I assumed that was part of the reconditioning to qualify as gold certified. No one ever told me that, not sure where I got it from. Maybe I made it up? It sounds good though.

Maybe I’m in the wrong then. I thought that anything gold certified pre-owned would including having everything up to par, including all due wear items replaced.

With everything I’ve learned from this thread, I’m even more confused of why they would like to trade me. I have the Toyota platinum warranty until 2030, so they would still see my beautiful face. They still have a bright future of arguing warranty exclusions with me.

    Keep it up my man
If they sold a vehicle CPO without really checking it out fully then that is on them.
I have caught my dealer fibbing on services, checking boxes but never did anything that the box included.

If not, then CPO means nothing at all.

Toyota does inspections every quarter to ensure that dealers are paying by the rules. They check for multiple painted panels, measure tires, brakes and so on based on the 160 point inspection. They don't look for recommended/suggested maintenance (spark plug, trans fluid, blah blah blah). If they claim they did work and didnt, sounds like a problem with the mechanic. You should receive warranty books in the mail for the certified warranty and the extended. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

What does a lifetime powertrain warranty cover? Can I bring it in 25 years later with 450k miles with a blown transmission and get it replaced free?

Those are typically "dealer warranties". Lots of fine print on those. To me, it's a gimmicks.

That and the moment you decline something they recommend, they can deny coverage. It's an attempt to retain service business.
