Hi. I have a 2015 tundra platinum. It has a moonroof. I was out today driving in some hard rains. Noticed when i would make a 90 degree right turn, i can hear water sloshing up in my roof and it then starts to leak out near my headliner where it meets the trim covering. Dripping down to my window controls and such. Same as when i will make a 90 degree left turn, sloshes and water drips out of same area on pass front door, dribbling down the grab handle. It doesn’t t leak out at back at the rear doors.ive inspected roof and seals and all looks intact and such. I now have observed a water line stain on the headliner in that spot. Pulling back the trim, the insulation is damps and such.
I was pondering about it; i did use a pressure washer this past June/July to remove tree sap from the roof and was thinking maybe i hit the moon roof seals too hard. But that doesn’t make sense because it hasn’t leaked since then while using the truck until now. is the moon roof the culprit? Has anyone else had or heard of this issue before? Pretty bummed out about it, wasn’t expecting an issue like this to rise up. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That sucks. Sounds like it is leaking through the moonroof somehow. I guess you could have damaged the seals. Someone with more knowledge than I will chime in directly.

Rain just stopped, opened moon roof, giant puddle of water standing the cavity. Feels slimy. Gonna use a wet vac to get out...shouldn’t there be a drain channel or such? If so, maybe clogged? I’ll look around in there, take some pics

Drain channels are clogged, most likely. Happens to me every fall in Maine with leaves and everything else falling from trees. Several vids online how to flush them out. Here’s one: https://youtu.be/L7S0E4xYdqU

The eternal pessimist in me has never wanted a moon or sun roof of any type on any vehicle for just this reason. I never planned on using mine in the PRO and if I could have picked up one without the moon roof I would have.

So my questions are.......do you actually use this on the vehicle that now has the leaking issues?

If you never open it then in theory......nothing can get in anywhere to clog any type of drain.......is this thought process correctly or flawed?

Good luck with getting the issues fixed.

    Thanks for any intel.

For sap/pitch, try hand sanitizer and a microfiber cloth. Amazingly fast, almost zero elbow grease.

Update. Figure to share as FYI ...
There is a black tray that runs along the front under the moon roof. I didn’t observe any drains or such. Will look again in the future, but didn’t see anything. I had probably 16-32 Oz of standing water in there. So when it sloshed around, must’ve splashed up high enough to go in between the open space of the headliner, thus then running downhill out to where it was inside.
My seal around the moon roof “Appears” well. Didn’t see any abnormalities or such.
I did observe a build up of black crud, like the black crud from sap and such on my roof (i have a silver truck).
I wiped down all this crud from around the moonroof rubber seal and the crud build up on the sheet metal contact of the moonroof opening.
Hoping that maybe the crud wasn’t allowing a tight seal. If not, then i imagine the seal would need to be replaced. Which would mean having to get the glass out i guess.
I’ll just have to check after hard rains. If i have water build up again, then will come down to making a decision how to fix permanently.

Sunroof drains are clogged. Try using some low pressure compressed air or something like a small plastic wire to push through. Holes should be somewhere towards the front corners of the opening.

I used weed walker string .080 to clear out the sunroof drains on a prior vehicle with a leaking sunroof. As others have mentioned clean out your sunroof drains.

    Thanks. All fixed.
Found the small drain holes on each side. Ran 30 psi air slowly at first down each hole. Then also snaked a 12” long zip tie just to make sure. Pored 32oz of water in the channel and al, the water drained out from under the truck!
Thanks for the help and info, really appreciate it!!!!!!! Hope this helps anyone else out of for preventive maintenance to clean your drain holes from time to time.

Awesome you figured it out! Do you think the tree debris was the culprit?

Maybe so. With the fact with COVID-19, I’ve been working from home since March16. This barely moving my truck that much. Whereas all the years since I’ve owned it since 2017, I’d leave the house in the Am and come home late evening. So much more exposure to being under a tree while parked. That’s why i got hit so hard with tree sap this year as well.

My last vehicle had a sunroof and I found that the thickest weed trimmer string you can find worked perfectly to clean the sunroof drains periodically....just an FYI...
