Pulled my H2O pump and the bearing seems fine as does the gasket. I know I am leaking antifreeze from somewhere in the front of the engine so I assumed it was the pump. Anywhere else it could be comin from?

Oh accidentally pulled the fan pulley off too lol

I've always put some sorta RTV sealant on the pump bolts. I've seen some do and some don't on these trucks. What's yall's take?

I didn't use any RTV... just the gasket that came with the pump. No leaks whatsoever... If you look at the engine block by the oil filter. If its caked with pink along with the sway bar your pump is/was leaking. Anywhere else is either the radiator, radiator cap or hoses.

How much fluid are you leaking? The seal in the water pump can weep, especially when cold, then seal itself back up when warmed up. Look for light pink crusty gunk for a small leak.

Yeah I JUST replaced my water pump. Take your time and follow the torque specs + pattern. I didn't use RTV or anything else. Just the gasket that came with the water pump. I bought mine directly from Toyota. When it comes parts, what I deem as critical parts, I just order from the dealer. Yeah it might be more but it's the peace of mind.

I wouldn't want to be off-roading with my family and my autozone water pump takes a shi*. Yeah autozone replaces the pump because lifetime blah blah...but what they wont replace is the cost to have the truck recovered from the middle of nowhere. Just my $0.02

Thanks. I bought the same pump that's OEM from RockAuto (Aisin). They ground off the "Toyota" name haha.

So yes the fan pulley has some play in it? The nuts bottom out on the non-threaded part of the bolts. Don't remember it being loose when I pulled it off but the belt had held it on since new so......

Fan pully has some play in it?

Yeah, there shouldn't be any. I'm big on tq specs and bolt pattern. If you followed them, then it shouldn't be moving around. Mine doesn't move at all and I also replaced the clutch fan.

Oh damn sorry. Once you install the clutch fan it shouldn't move.

Haha I'm on the downhill slope. Just gotta button up a couple more hoses, install shroud and fan then fill with coolant.

Make sure you use Toyota coolant. Not that green shi*. Not sure if it makes a difference but if it calls for it, I'd use it.

The chemical makeup of the coolant makes a difference, which is why there are so many flavors now. Some will corrode materials used in assembly or the metal itself on certain parts. It’s not a matter of which coolant is better - it’s which one is correct for your motor. I use the pink stuff from Toyota. I’ve seen what the green stuff does to the wrong vehicle and it ain’t pretty.

Can anyone chime in with how full their puke bottle sits on the regular? I think I'm overfilling mine (even though it's below the Max line) because I've been getting coolant spewing out of there when I go on a drive. I'm gonna take another test drive later on with the level where it sits now (near the Low line).

Mine honestly sat near empty since new. Somebody opened the rad cap at the dealer when doing the delivery inspection and spewed some coolant all over the underside of the hood and rad support, but didn’t bother cleaning it up or topping off the reservoir. After my recent coolant exchange, it sits at the cold empty line and goes up to the hot full line when hot.

I keep mine at the full line when warm on both my 2000 and my 2018. The first gen has a small leak at the rear crossover so I have to add a little once or twice a month. Eventually I’ll take the manifold off and fix it.

My tundra is at the full line when cold and when it's hot its a bit over. Yeah I could probably take some out...but in the event the engine need more coolant for whatever reason, it's there.
