01/22/2022 - It's been over a year since my last no non-sense post, I'll check in once in a while to read up on what's happing but it's the some old stuff.

Anyway I'm posting about installing a Western Pro Ultra Plow on my 2017 Tundra 1794. Western does not make a plow kit for the Tundra, stopping most people in the market right there. Well if you're interested in how to do this read on.

Get a western 31139 truck side ultra mount kit. It fits 2007-xxxx I guess all tundras. I have a TRD front skid plate on my 2017 no mods to it just leave it right where it is. Replace the M12x1.25x35 hardened tow hook bolts with M12x1.25x40 hardened bolts. (not easy to find) and now you are half way there with the project.

When I bought the used older Western 7.6 Ultra Pro plow (in great shape) it came with a hand held control and a 4 plug isolation module. So what do you do now?
Hook up the big negative eye lug and positive eye lug to the battery, mount the isolation box somewhere and run the hand control lead into the cab and the other 3 plow plugs through the grill. I did not use the two headlight ports on the isolation module they are blanks. The headlights on the tundra are taller than the plow lights on the plow frame so who needs them. You can travel with the plow 8" up without eclipsing your factory headlights. CaChing just saved $280.

Anyway you can plow professionally with a tundra. I also have 5100's set on the stiff setting. B9395EC9-BDA6-4FE1-A3F9-10DFEFCBB72D_1_201_a.jpg 7A88FEB2-2E0A-4A4A-8BF8-031CAC7D8B4E_1_201_a.jpg

The front end dips about 1 1/2 inches when I lift the blade up. About the same as my old 2500 dodge. Now I have to take a shower I said Dodge.

There was your problem. That motor was one of the most sought after motors from junkyards for a reason. Lord help you if the 47RE was behind it. My company used to have 10 cylinder Fords and Dodges. The Ford V10 had very little issues. The Dodges....wow. I would get 6 mpg towing light. If I had a skid steer or remote soil compactor on a HD tandem trailer I could literally watch the gas gauge move. The fuel gauge seemed to move faster than the truck did..

Thinking the Tundra will have better service life for sure. Welcome back.

It snowed last night in Northern IL about 2 1/2" and the Tundra cleared my lot at a idle ( It was powder snow) Anyway

Are you using this for personal or commercial? That is a lot of space to clear. I would have done the same thing. I went the tractor route, only because there was going to be a lot of landscaping and needed something that could mow the terrain around my property.

Is your trailer locked up pretty good? Around here trailers are being stolen like people are giving them away.

I'm using the plow for personal use, There is a lot of asphalt to clear here. I was paying around $700 per year to have a so so job done. As far as the trailer locked up there has never been any theft here in 20 years. I do have cameras on site though.
Im cutting 7 acres with a Ferris 72" 30 Hp zero turn, I looked at 4x4 JD and the thought of spending $35k on a tractor then sitting out in the cold didn't make any sense to me. It would be just one more mouth to feed.

Only 700? That's not bad depending on how much snow you get (assuming a lot considering where you live). I have some neighbors that live off a street that leads to 4 homes. None of them want to invest in a plow truck or tractor. Every time a company comes out and plowes the private road and into the lots it's 250.00. I have seen it snow back to back and they have to pay this 4 times a month. Sometimes they have to wait a couple days and are stuck in their homes. Longest time was 6 days. You sometimes see them all out with snow shovels and snow blowers from HD. That is some funny stuff. I did offer to help for a fee. They declined.

That is one nice ZT! Bet it makes quick work of your acreage and a tractor wouldn't make sense for you. Mine is too steep for a ZT. I can't even mow in 2wd on the tractor. :(

    Wow!

I will probably NEVER HAVE TO DO THIS- but thank you, it’s fascinating to see.

I wish I lived somewhere that it snowed heavily. To me, drinking a huge cup of coffee and pushing snow around with my Tundra sounds like a pretty good day….

I was drinking a large mug of Joe while I was plowing this morning, and it is nice that my truck is taking care of me, It's usually the other way around.

They do otherwise you wouldn't have been able to find a mount for it. The Suburbanite, Defender, and HTS are all options for a Tundra and the HTS uses the same UltraMount frame.

They likely don't recommend the Pro because it's 150lbs heavier than those options. That's not to say it obviously won't work it's just a higher stress on the front end parts and closer to overloading the front axle weight.

My buddy recently sold his tundra with a boss v plow. Was a nice setup. Would never do it processionally in New Hampshire with either setup though.

The defender is 300 pounds but only 7'.2" wide, The HTS is 7.6 wide and 412 pounds then the mid-weight at 540 pounds and 7 1/2 wide finally the Pro Plow coming in at 653 pounds and 7 1/2 wide. After 35 years of plowing I learned that the HD plows don't brake like the light weight plows. Im using the Pro plow for personal use, at the most 10 hours a year so I'm not worried at all. Good job on your homework.
