For the last several months I could hear a wha wha sound while driving under 30mph.
It would change with the speed I was going ,,,sounded like an out of round front tire,,,but after driving on a 70 mile trip it continued to make sound,

Someone on this forum had a similar problem and it was recommended to switch to 4 wheel drive and see if the sound went away,,,well, I tried that and the sound did go away.
Better yet,,,when I switched back to 2 wheel drive the sound was gone too,,,it was like something hadn’t engaged completely the last time I used the 4 wheel drive,,,Hope I didn’t damage anything driving it that was,,(under 500 miles)
Just glad to have it fixed now

    Thank you Forum
    Ken

Sounds like your driverside needle bearings are shot. You might wanna see how much play you have in the driverside CV axle where it connects to the front differential.

This! ECGS (East Coast Gear Center) sells a bushing to replace this troublesome needle bearing, I actually replaced my needle bearing with their bushing yesterday and I’m impressed. And it takes a bit to impress me.

Thanks for the clarification. Some problems with this can be attributed to something as simple as not using the 4WD very often on a newer truck, and some can be attributed as normal wear and tear on an older model, and needs to be seriously looked at and diagnosed.

Did you replace the bushing yourself or pay to have it done? I personally don't have the needle bearing issue but curious how hard it is to install the bushing???

I did it myself. It wasn’t hard at all in my opinion. The hardest part was driving the CV axle / c-clip back in, had to go get my 56oz deadblow hammer for that.

But then again, I do work on commercial trucks for beer money (and all other kinds of money :D). I’d put it at a 4/5 for the DIY’er. ECGS has a good video on their site to help.

Watch Red Green reruns......down here we use baling twine to fix things. Thought duct tape was the Canuck fix all?
