I need to replace my rear brakes, (shoes and drums), I'm not looking to change from stock, but wondered...

    1) What brand did you guys buy?

    2) Where did you get them?

    3) How much were they?

    4) Do you like what you got?

    5) Did you get a kit with drums, shoes and hardware?

I ordered Brembo drums, they were decently priced but I can't recall the amount. I got them from autopartswarehouse and Brembo shoes as well. I got a kit with the springs but it wasn't Brembo, can't think of the name. With the many curves life has thrown at me lately those parts are on the shelf waiting for install day. Maybe after this weekend.

ive had numerous issues with aftermarket drums on any toyota. so i just stick with the overpriced OEM drums.

the rhythmic squeak i fought on my tacoma with 4 different sets of drums (napa, brembo, autozone, and centric) drove me nuts. OEM drums and no more problems. didnt matter if i cut the aftermarkets eitherm within 2000 miles they'd squeak rhythmicly

as of now i run toyota drums, toyota shoes and napa hardware.

My drums were doing this weird hopping thing when I braked, read a lot and many people said they had issues with any aftermarket so I used OEM and hopping was gone instantly. I'm a big fan of centric parts in general and that's what I used for my rotors and pads.

My local dealership has an online parts department, so I order online at the discounted online prices and then pick up. Some dealerships will match online prices if you ask. Otherwise McGeorge Toyota and Toyota of cool spring have good prices (for OEM)

Stay away from centric. Shit QC and missing part. I have their drums and durualast shoes but can't speak to the quality of them, as they're full of diff juice again.

These are the ones I bought last year. So far working great! No shudders or shakes.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for your input. Looking on line the drums from a dealer look like $170 each! Yikes! Anyone have a line on a genuine Toyota drum for less?

Yeah I’m having a hard time spending that much on oem drums. There has got to be a decent aftermarket one out there

Yeah until you add shipping. Then it’s $334 for a set of rear drums

I recently did mine. I also read a lot of reviews where people had to have other brands turned because where not balanced good.

So far I am happy with my ACdelco ones.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C9DZG0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I went with these instead of the cheaper ACdelco black ones on one of the above post. I did not know much about brake drums myself. Just that these listed the weight as being 4 lbs heavier.
These seemed to be well balanced. If I had not found these I would have gone with OEM. Because of all the complaints with the other brands.

If your going with aftermarkets look for where the weights are welded on. I do believe that’s 90% of the problem. All the ones I tried the weights were welded onto the outer sides of the drum. They are suppose to be welded to the face of the drum

Still on the original drums from 2002 with 170k miles. Rebuilt the rear master cylinders with OEM components ($70). Used brake grease on all contact points ($7). Installed new NAPA shoe return springs ($15). Shoes are OEM Toyota ($90).

If its time to change rear brakes, you should do a rear disk brake conversion, the initial cost is high, but the benefits will be better in the long run. I changed mine and it was worth the cost and time to do it. Check out “tundra racing.com” they have everything you need and you can call them for advise before purchasing them.

I bought the axle caliper brackets only. I did not need the parking brake feature, so i purchased the upgraded brake calipers, pads and drilled/slotted rotors separately and installed the whole kit myself. I had to get flexible steel braided brake hoses fabricated to fit my axle instead of bending new hard lines. The whole thing was easier than i expected, i purchased new axle seals and new gear oil as well

$1400 (w/parking brake, $500 option) is a hard price to swallow just for rear discs.

If you do the brackets for parking brake and source your own hardware it’s much cheaper

@WaterOp I have been pretty happy with Powerstop products. Used them on Matrix, 4Runner, and now my Tundra. However, Jcwhitney and Rockauto haven't been offering free shipping lately which is expensive for drums and rotors. So for my tundra I bought the Z36 towing pads from Rock Auto for $88.00 (disc not drums though), had the rears machined $30 and bought a couple Carquest platinum front rotors $160. So my whole brake job was less than $300.

2014 fj cruiser for the sos parts. Napa breaker components are cheaper. Used calipers or Napa remans can be us cheap.
