On my 1st Tundra (out of three, 1st was a 2010) I changed both diffs and transfer case fluid at the same time around 40k miles to Amsoil and saw a 1.5MPG improvement across the board. That was lifted 8" on 37" tires. I am quite partial to Amsoil. Will probably get Amsoil in my new Tundra after I get some miles on it.

Only oem oil for transfer case. Amsoil does not have a fluid they recommend for it

If you don’t mind, how many miles were on it when it was changed and how did the OEM fluid look? Thank you.

The owners manual says Toyota fluid "or equivalent" and recommends a 75W.

I changed the Tcase fluid in my Tacoma at 50k and I could have put it back in the bottle and sold for new. I do use 4wd a fair amount but not like someone would in the frozen north. I do not think I will ever change the tcase fluid in the Tundra.

I used an equivalent Toyota transfer case fluid and now I experience delayed disengagement of 4wd...just blinks for awhile until I have a turn of the steering wheel... this did not occur when the factory fluid was in the transfer case...

Not sure if it's merely a coincidence or if its in fact the reason...engagement works fast and correct, just not the disengagement.

I know that Mobil makes "Toyota Motor Oil" not sure about the gear oil, but I'm pretty sure its not synthetic, just like their W.S
(World Standard) tranny fluid isn't synthetic either. It would cost Toyota A-Lot More Money to fill all there new vehicles with synthetic fluids (besides motor oil), So I'm with Overisland, Amsoil Synthetic gear oil, in the transfer case, Front and Rear differentials, too. Also Amsoil Synthetic tranny fluid (low Viscosity). Synthetic fluids flow better in cold weather, and they can dissipate Heat much better
(higher Flash point) than conventional fluids, which is extremely important in transmissions.

I used the WS fluid and am having annoyances...driveline works, but I have to wait longer for it to disengage...if I did it again, I'd go with Toyota fluid to ensure proper function...

It's your truck but would recommend against 75W-90 and use the straight 75W. Toyota changed transfer cases in 2014 from Aisin to Borg Warner and it's Borg Warner that specifies 75W. 75W-90 is fine for the diffs but many have had shift problems after putting it in their transfer cases.

75w90 is not the same as straight 75, just like 0w20 is not the same as 0w40

Amsoil is so amazing that people swear by their products even when they themselves say they don’t recommend one for that application!

I respect a company that tells their customers that they should stick to the oem fluid because it is a unique formulation for that application.

You used world standard fluid in the T-case? The WS is associated to the transmission, not associated to the transfer case.

Hmmm, I'll have to confirm now...I did fluid swaps in everything underneath and was told my choices were: Toyota OEM fluid or World Standard...the shop I had do the work is a well-known Toyota shop in my area and they said if it was their own rig, they'd have no problem using WS...I thought WS had a newish variation for t-cases but I'll need to confirm...

like I said, W.S is Toyota's transmission fluid, which is not synthetic (mineral-based oil) , so I believe Amsoil, low viscosity synthetic transmission fluid, is superior over Toyota's W.S. As far as transfer-cases and differentials go, I use Amsoil synthetic gear oil, at whatever weight is recommended for my vehicle. Not W.S transmission fluid.

Amsoil does not make a like 75w 14+ Borg Warner case fluid.

I'm not sure why WS keeps getting brought up in this tread...

Only because someone mentioned, that they thought, W.S was a "newish" variation for T-cases. I used the Amsoil 75W-90 Severe gear synthetic gear lube with no issues. When its cold out , it will be at 75W, ( like Borg-Warner specs.) that's my main concern, when engaging or disengaging, 4 wheel drive, during the cold winter, granted the viscosity of the oil will increase (90W)during warmer weather, but that hasn't been an issue.

I used ravenol 75w in the transfer case to replace ththe 75w90 that was in it. Shifts into 4wd smoother and quicker now. Used Schaeffer 75w90 in front and rear end.
