Unreal. Good to know you’ve had your weather seals done under warranty. This is inspirational as my passenger door is noisy AF at highway speeds. The list of work you’ve had done under warranty on a brand new truck is insane. This speaks to Toyota’s lack of quality control on our trucks. I wonder if this relates to the San Antonio factory, limitations on parts, cost-cutting, whether builds took place during or just after COVID, or other factors. This is definitely not representative of what Toyota is supposedly striving for with their Kaizen philosophy.

Digital Dash update (it was randomly going blank) and dealer removed my Tonneau cover due to the recall. Even though Toyota has no fix, no timeline nor reasoning for the Tonneau cover issue, the dealer left the railing, hardware and drainage tubes in place. Unless their fix, if there ever is one, uses the same hardware, I have a feeling we will be removing that stuff.

I bought my truck in December of 2022. Mine also had the issue with the lower rear door trim interfering with the front floor trim when the rear door was opened. Snapped the trim first time the rear door was opened. Dealer took pictures and said they would get a replacement parts from Toyota and get it fixed quickly. Here we sit in mid March and they still don’t have the parts to fix it and they’re telling me it’s a Toyota issue, not a dealer issue.

My dealership is turning out to be pretty poor - service and communication. After working on it today for the recalls, they left the cockpit area dirty (carpets, seat, mats, etc). It was very clean when I left it with them today, but obviously whoever worked on it dragged a bunch of dirt into it and then didn’t clean up after themselves.

I called Toyota last week about the unresolved molding issue, because I wasn’t getting any sort of timeline from my dealer. Toyota assigned a case number and told me someone would call me back with the results of their investigation and a solution within 2 to 3 business days. It’s now been six business days, crickets.

I want to love this truck. First Tundra, second Toyota truck I have owned. This is my the first and last vehicle from from this dealer. Previously owned a Tacoma that I bought new a few years ago from another dealer, it was flawless. I have owned a bunch of Ford trucks over the last 25 years. This Tundra has the potential to be my most favorite, but at this point, I’m really finding it almost unbelievable the issues and lack of communication and service from Toyota and my dealer. This is really not what I expect when I bought a Toyota Tundra; neither the quality of the product, the service from my dealer nor the the responsiveness from Toyota——all exactly the opposite of what I expected.

I'm with ya 100%. I had heard so much about the brand so I had to try. What a disappointment! Let me give you an example of Toyota failing to communicate / work with dealerships. My Tundra had an AC issue from the day it arrived to the lot. Toyota sent engineers to look at it, even though it had already been diagnosed the week prior. Knowing the issue, they could have brought the part, but they did not. They then returned to Texas and would not send the new part until the dealership shipped the defective part back. The dealership refused to ship the defective part stating "it's the only leverage we have". My truck spent roughly 40 days in the shop because the two sides were acting like children, neither giving a crap about the customer.

After getting the truck back, I had it about a month and it went back into the shop for a laundry list of misc problems with paint, rubber seals etc. They kept it for two weeks and when I picked it up, one issue out of 7 had been repaired; of course the dealership blamed Toyota. My truck spent roughly 60 days in the shop my first 6 months of ownership.

Thankfully to this point my dealership has been excellent to deal with . Most of the stuff on my list has been taken care of in the same day as the appointment the truck is booked in. If not a loaner vehicle has been provided. I still do like the truck but yes I agree quality control for the new tundra is something to be desired kinda suprised to be honest. Most of my list is interior annoying rattles/noises and cheap plastic concerns. The rattles and wind noise are the worst out of any new truck Ive purchased. Id say most of the problems on my list have been taken care of. We will see how the ECM issue pans out. Hopefully pick truck up late Friday or early next week.

1-800 Toyota is awful. I contacted them and opened a case on my one issue. Some guy in a foreign country with poor English answered. Opened a case and never heard from them again.

My coworker couple years ago had to get a lawyer to resolve port installed option damage to his Taco. I see why now.

Before anyone jumps in with thy all suck , 1-800 GM and 1-800 Ram at least call you back on a case and communicate with you. Their response maybe lame but better than total ghosting.

5,000 miles and so far only a software update for the guage screen which I had go black once prior to the update, the tonneau issue yet to be resolved. Otherwise it's been fine. Tows my RV really well but doesn't seem to like my landscaping trailer when backing up, the landscaping trailer is low profile so the cameras get confused; not a big deal, works fine with the RV.

To those having issues, keep trying. It took me a full year, but I finally got through to a case manager that cared enough to do something. The rest, I agree with you completely. Toyota made a promise to issue me a 10 year warranty then failed to act. I tried for over 6 months to contact the case manager who wouldn't call me back. Every other person I spoke to said only "your assigned case manager" can assist you. Either their system is a joke or they make up rules as they go. And yes, the inept case manager clearly was not operating from a US base, lol.

1st couple TSB or recalls were done prior to me getting the truck, while it was in transit.
    Got the ebrake error flash.
Wish I could get the throttle delay flashed but it's not there for my truck yet. Thinking of getting the JB4 with beta. I read that it fixed or helps it. But I don't see how if it is only interfaced under the hood.

Nothing yet but recalls or safety bulletins. However I'm still patiently waiting for the fuel gauge issue. I was unaware that the startup clunk was a documented issue. Toyota used to be bulletproof and Johnny on the spot for issues. I'm hoping its just new model jitters. My 2010 ans 2017 Tundras were indestructible. Still mulling extended warranty for when the times comes as I'm sure replacing a turbo won't be cheap.

It doesnt. I talked to BMS and they confirmed. Theyre going to release a pedal module soon like PC and Banks. I run a PC-55 and the JB4 because of this

Wow, pretty scary that your gauge screen went dark/black on you. I recently had to take my Tundra in for a new door seal that dealership damaged during 20k oil change. Interestingly, after the last visit, my digital battery and oil pressure gauges are acting up. Oil pressure gauge bar now goes up to 3/4 full range at startup (i live in FL, so ambient temps are 70 - 80 degrees at startup). It never did that in the first 20K miles. Also, I got a battery charging notification within minutes of leaving the dealership at a stop light. I then noticed that my digital voltage meter goes from normal charging state to almost 3/4 full range every time I let off the gas pedal. I can be driving at almost any speed, let off the gas pedal and the voltage goes up by at least 2 to 3 volts. Have you every seen this with your Tundra? I checked battery with Fluke voltmeter and the battery voltage is 12.4 to 12.6 when engine is off. I have an old passport radar detector that displays voltage and it confirms that when I let off the gas pedal, the alternator rapidly increases the voltage to at least 14.8 volts (detected from the 12 volt cigarette lighter port on top of the dashboard. My dealership is about 40 miles, so getting tired of driving over there for these crazy issues. BTW, I installed the Toyota Tonneau cover on my Tundra about a month after purchasing the truck. I have read that the cover joint fails and can fly off the vehicle, I’m guessing Toyota will have to replace the complete top, so I wonder if they will do it since that cover cost over $1000 retail. Guess we will have to wait to see what Toyota will do for their customers.

The oil pressure is exactly how mine works. Its higher at startup and then backs down to almost two full bars.
Goes up and down based on engine load.

Normal alternator voltage is between 13.5 to 14.5

Thanks for confirming your oil pressure readings. Mine drops down to almost one bar, even when driving at high speeds, only when I am accelerating from low speeds does it rise up to two bars. I’m guessing that onboard computer has algorithm for ohm reading from sending unit to display pressure reading. It’s just super annoying that I take my truck into dealership and leave there with completely different gauge readings. Of course I called them, but they said they didn't hook my truck up to a computer, but how can one explain different gauge readings……..

As for battery and voltages, i did check each battery cell water level and those look good, now going to put voltmeter on battery at startup to make sure the battery is not going bad. Just cant explain why the voltage gauge would climb every single time i take foot off of gas pedal. I can ease up on the pedal and nothing changes on the voltage meter. Just a weird pattern and can’t wait to find out why it is doing this, especially after a visit to my dealership.

Most Toyota charging systems integrate their voltage regulators into the alternator assembly. While charging voltage specifications vary according to application, the voltage regulator generally adjusts battery-charging voltage according to ambient air temperature. For example, at 70° F, the voltage regulator charges the battery at approximately 14.2 volts. As underhood or ambient temperatures increase, the charging voltage is reduced to about 13.8 volts or less to prevent boiling the water from the battery electrolyte. During cold weather, charging voltage can increase into the 15-volt range to compensate for reduced chemical activity in the battery in sub-freezing temperatures. In any case, consult your service data before assuming that an apparently low or high charging voltage is incorrect for the system in question.

With the battery warning light off, standard charging current as measured at the alternator B+ wire should be 10 amps or less, and charging voltage should range between 13.2 to 14.8 volts. With the headlamps on and the HVAC blower turned to “Hi” position, charging amperage should be 30 or more amps. Since a fully charged battery might display less amperage, turning on additional accessories like the rear-glass defogger and windshield wipers will increase alternator amperage output. If the alternator can’t maintain a 30-amp load, it should be replaced.

A little more than one bar is low in my opinion. Getting a real oil pressure reading has been a challenge for me using my OBDLinkMX+

Just out of curiousity, since the last oil change did you check the oil level on the motor?

I have a BlueDriver OBD, maybe I should hook it up to see if I can get any errors or see something with the battery or oil pressure readings. I don’t think it supplies that information.

Absolutely I checked it in a nearby parking lot as soon as I noticed the odd behavior on my drive home from dealership on 3/17/2023. Oil level looked good considering the Tundra dipstick level is so hard to read. Like I said, my oil level has always seemed to run between one to two bars over the past 20K miles. I have crawled under the hood looking for any signs of leaks or problems to make sure something else could go wrong. i can easily put 35K miles every year on my vehicle, so I am always checking fluids, belts, etc. so I don’t get stranded from home.

I just had the oil changed on 3/8/23 and everything was running normal after that visit, except that someone in their shop messed up my drivers door seal trim, im guessing they did that when they were getting in and out of my truck. i saw at least 4 people in my truck that day. Then when i went out to leave, I notice the trip was all messed up. After getting service manager and he looked at it, he first just wanted to put some double sided tape on the seal to try and fix it. I had to press to get them to fix it right. Their slogan is “We’re here to WOW ya”, and I have to say they have not given me any reason to feel that way so far.

    Well I watched it today....

Under 2k rpm the oil pressure is under two bars. I would say 1.5 - 1.8 bars.
Over 2k the oil pressure is at 2 bars +
Higher RPM and it can go into the 3 bar range.

As for the voltage.... When driving and I am off the gas (coasting), the engine is at about 1500 rpm and the voltage guage starts moving middle to high.
When you hit the gas the voltage on the guage drops to maybe 12 or so.

so this is my typical behavior.

    1. software/firmware updates
    2. axle recall (wasn't an issue)
    3. headliner + harness replacement. I haven't heard anyone else have an issue with this one yet, but my interior lights stopped working. Brought it in to the dealer, they found the short a day later in the headliner. Toyota told them to replace the entire harness and the harness only comes with the headliner. Therefore, I got a new headliner.

Other than my interior lights issue, everything else has been solid for the last 17k miles *knock on wood*

The only two issues outside of the software and axle torque recalls is one of my rear parking sensors fell out and the velcro tape that holds the headliner up at the front near the sunglass holder/cabin lights housing wasn't working. They fixed the headliner easy and hasn't been and issue since. For the rear parking sensor, Toyota only uses a small piece of double sided tape to hold those in place. Still waiting on the part for that after 3+ months. Other than that, my truck has been solid.

I need everyone to understand the rules of this forum. Saying ANYTHING negative about the 3rd Generation Tundra will get you in serious trouble. The 3rd Generation is the greatest vehicle ever built. The front grill is so manly and not at all oversized. It's greatest feature, the complete cab-off design for simple repairs, is ingenious. The way one can reproduce the sound of the 5.7L V8 with just the touch of a button is amazing and not silly or completely embarrassing at all.

    LOL.

Lurking. Not much interesting in here these days to be honest.

Which is mostly a good thing.
