What is the OEM stuff? A quick search just shows ATF.

Thats ATF though, so it will be red unlike whatever comes in there from the factory.

The fluid used in the power steering loop is Toyota 00718-ATF00 ATF. It's what's specified in the manual and even on the power steering fluid reservoir cap. These pumps don't use a "power steering fluid." Fluids change color over time and heat cycles/use, so it's probably not red anymore.

My manual just says use Dexron II or III. Cap doesn't say anything about type of fluid. Truck only has 33k on it and pulling the cap you can tell the fluid was never red.

I just did a flush with Valvoline Max Life ATF (Dex III ATF), she’s cherry red.

Which is exactly what the formulation of 00718-ATF00 ATF is. Literally says "Formulated to replace Dexron II or III in applicable Toyota models. Please consult your owner's manual to ensure the correct application," and the manual calls for Dexron II or III. Cap should say Dexron II or III. Found this on another forum, "Don't let the Red "dye"color of Dexron ATF fluid throw yu off. Even though factory fill is not red, Dexron is the recommended fluid." Here's the link: . @ViktorG could you chime in on this please.

That is the correct fluid to use in the Tundra power steering system.

Thanks for the info guys, I guess the only thing that's confusing is what vehicle that ATF fluid is even meant for? I wouldn't think Toyota made a transmission that requires Dexron so did they make this simply to replace power steering fluid?

EDIT: I answered my own question with some googling, it appears some older Toyota did spec for Dexron II.
    https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/dexron-ii-for-my-02-4runner.308664/
Also it seems Mobile has caught on that Toyota Specs for Dexron II or III in the power steering since the back of this bottle actually read that it is a replacement for that. Considering the Mobile 1 and Toyota Fluid are about the same price, I'll just pick up some of the Toyota stuff.

Hey guys thanks for all the info and it seems Toyota has now taken measures to make it a little less confusing. The new packaging for 00718-ATF00 now says ATF and Power Steering Fluid.

So Toyota is the best fluid versus Mobil one, or the other name brand fluids?

I don't know if it's the best but it's the only one that actually meets the requirements that makes sense since the manual says dex 2 or 3 and those are not produced anymore so now you can only buy fluids that say they meet everything. This is the only one that says it just meets dex 3 for Toyota psf and atf. Can you use any other atf? Probably, id be willing to bet dealers throw WS in there but this stuff is cheap enough that to me it didn't make sense not to use it.

How much per quart was it? And is it red like typical ATF?

    Working on it :-)
I went through this with my daughters 07 FJ. Never could get a correct answer. Is the 00718-ATF00 good for the FJ also? I went to several auto parts store and everybodys answer was different and they seemed to be guessing.

I paid around $10 a quart about a year ago. It is red.
If the manual calls for Dex III then yes.
