I buy only the Toyota brand oil filters. I can’t find the correct socket to loosen the filter. I had one, it’s too loose, bought a cast aluminum one, again too loose.
Where can a brother get the proper fitting filter wrench?
I have strap wrench, but prefer the correct filter wrench.

Your putting it on to tight if you need a wrench to take it off

Yeah, I was about to say, if you're using a wrench, you're doing something wrong.

Slap a little oil on the seal it and torque it down by hand. You don't need any more than that. These aren't canister filters where you need a special wrench. My wife's '12 Highlander used those, it felt so wrong wrenching the filter housing on and off.

Nope, bigger lol and they're almost unnecessary. But I completely agree that you shouldn't need a special wrench. I tighten my filter just a bit more than I can do by hand.

Lube techs like those better because they can put the housing wrench on their impact and make sure it’s good and tight.

If the 2005 filter is the YZZD3 (same as 2002 filter), you can find one at Consumer Auto Parts if you have one near you. I don't know if there's a difference between the VVTI 4.7 V8 and the normal 4.7 V8.

This is what I use for my 2002 V8 Tundra.
    CTA Tools - A254 - Cap-Type Oil Filter Wrench - 73mm x 14 Flute — CTA Manufacturing

They may carry one for your filter if you know the size.

Hasn't caused me a problem yet. Although I just snug it an extra 1/4 turn with the wrench after being hand tight.

I’m not cranking it down too tight. To me it’s like getting the correct
Wrench vs using an adjustable wrench.

I always put it on hand tight....I always need to hammer a screwdriver through it to take it off, go figure.

A snug filter is better than a loose filter when it is time for an oil change. I have had the same experience over the years with all my vehicles…

I go 3/4 turn past the point where the "O" ring just touches the machined surface. After 5k miles, if it's a bit too tight to spin off by hand, or too hot, I use a band type wrench to make life easier. Take a filter to an auto parts store to get the proper size. The end mount type that match up with the flats on the filter slips too much.

Just changed my oil today. Channel locks to get the old one off. Hand tightened the new one on.
