I'm a new 2021 Tundra SR5 owner. Can someone please explain the Gen versions on here? How do I know if my truck is a x.x Gen? I ask because in my looking for the answer I found contradicting messages.

    Thanks in advance!

The 14 - 21 was called a 3rd gen until 22 came out. Then it got changed to 2.5 gen.

Just think of all that money your saving not just stacking miles on it. Hopefully when all this craziness settles down we can all go back to not worrying about the small stuff. You'll be glad to have the last of the real trucks.

Although all the preceding answers are correct and more funny, the answer you’re looking for is “2.5 gen”. You have the last year of these. We *used to call these 3rd gen on this forum, because there are significant changes to the appearance from 2015 on. But Toyota considers 2007-2021 as 2nd gen and 2022 as the first year of the 3rd gen. So, on this forum, we now refer to 2015 -2021 as 2.5 gen.

You have the last year of the 2.5 gen….

OP this is worth noting because any thread older than about August 2021 most likely has incorrect mentioning of the generation, since prior to that the "2.5 gen" guys referred to themselves as "3rd gen" which they've now been forced to realize was wrong  but just a heads up, a thread earlier for instance had someone arguing about a response from 2019 and how the poster was incorrect about the 3rd gen... When in 2019 he was correct, just the naming conventions hadn't been redacted.

We weren't "forced to realize we were wrong" because everyone was following what the aftermarket was using to differentiate the products that didn't fit the rest of the 2nd gen. Besides, as previously stated, we are the Turd Gen. :p

So basically Toyota screwed this up by not following our naming convention? They need to pay better attention :duel:

Yes I'm saving the money and people gave me a little grief about buying a truck with such bad gas mileage, BUT, I can surely justify my purchase because I work at home and don't have to go anywhere often. Since I just turned 50 I expect this truck to last me well into retirement.

    My mod plans are:
    1. Chrome delete
    2. Light bar(s)
    3. Cat Security Plates (completed)

No, ‘all gens matter’. However, anyone with a 1st gen— or more than one gen, like me— known 1gen is the best gen. A couple years back, there were only a relative few of us best gen owners active on this forum. We’d have our threads crashed regularly by self-involved 3rd gen owners answering with information that was absolutely wrong… because they couldn’t be bothered to notice they were answering a question posed on a 1st gen sub-forum…, and answers that would be correct for both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks…because the third isn’t really a 3rd gen mechanically or in most other ways… why it’s been redesignated as 2.5. Are you following?

Anyway, a disparaging (playing ) spoonerism for “third” is “turd”. So no, there’s nothing wrong with a 2.5 gen, referred to as “turd gen” by best gen owners— as long as they don’t answer best gen questions with “turd” gen solutions, we all get along fine. :)

And, all gens of Tundra are awesome!:muscleflexing:

Like @Sunnier said, the term "Turd Gen" was just used as a shaming technique by 1GTs when one of us would answer a question (or post at all) in the 1GT ssubgroups. However, some of us adopted it as our Gen because it was all in good natured fun. All gens up to the 2021 have their pros and cons, but none are terrible. 2022+ results remain to be seen.

Besides, 1GTs are just jealous of our 5.7s. :p

A million mile engine? Are you saying that is a 5.7L pulling the 4.7L across the finish line?

The two Tundras documented to reach a million miles were actually 2nd gens with 4.7L’s, that went out of production in 2009. The 4.6L came out as the baby engine option in 2010, to replace the 4.7L.
