I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra Crewmax 1794 edition… Replacing the original battery today (8/21/23) for the first time since purchasing the vehicle brand new (drove off the showroom floor)….. Contacted the dealer and was advised that the original battery from the assembly line are not available to purchase… They see them on the books … However, they can’t even purchase that original battery …. The only batteries they have access to are the true start batteries (i.e. OEM replacement batteries)… To get nine (9) years from an original battery (assembly line) is awesome!!! Not to mention unheard of!!!! They (Toyota) need to start selling these assembly line batteries!!! Simply put!!!

    Alot of them
Most batteries now are made in the same 3 or so factories and will only last about 3-5 years depending on climate. The warranties are also crap at most places.

I've been having a difficult time finding a 27F up here in Canada. Granted I haven't actually checked with Toyota dealer yet, but most battery places are subbing 24F for the 27F.

I'm eying this one, which I can source locally: https://www.optimabatteries.com/products/yellowtop-d27f/

My stock OEM battery is coming up on 4y and I don't want to take chance in a -30 winter. It's showing 60% of so on my battery load testers.

I always ran Interstate MTP, but when my cats were stolen and the truck sat on the Toyota lot for 8 months, they GAVE my Toyota TrueStart 84-month battery.

So far so good, although when this one dies I'll go back to Interstate...

My truck is a little over three years old. Local Costco only has 24F in stock… think they are $99, but will go for 27F somewhere else in a year or so

I would never spend that kind of money over ($200) for a standard car/truck battery…. So much mark up!!!

Bought an Interstate MTP to replace the OEM and it died after 6 months. Switched over to a Diehard and its been good for a little over a year. I'll probably just get another Diehard when this one dies.

I have a True start, but only because my OEM one failed under warranty. As for what I will get when this one goes, who knows. At this point it seems everything is junk nowadays. Only way I see me buying a AGM is if it would be cost effective vs a regular battery every 4-5 years.

Battery maintenance is key to longevity as well. I check my water levels and top off with distilled water and plug mine into my Optimate charger at least once a month.

This ^. Maintenance is key to everything. You could have the best battery or oil or brake fluid, if you dont tend to it, its garbage.

Fuck that. I am not maintaining a battery, and I haven't since the 1970s. And haven't needed to either. People putting them on tenders or adding water evey month? LOL. Of course, I don't do a lot of other things that people spend a lo of time, money and effort on.

Run it till it dies, or starts to act like it's dying, and replace, or just replace every 3-5 years and not worry about it.

I do the same thing with oil changes just run it until the engine dies and get a new one. Maintenance is too hard.

Yeah, like that is even remotely the same thing. Battery maintenance for me means replacing it every 3-5 years.

True Start from Toyota, I’ve never had a problem with them but some have on the forum. My son has them in his Camry and rav4 both over 4 years old.

Biggest bad ass drop in, as in posts are in the correct position, etc. we've found is the Odyssey Extreme AGM27F. We run a pair of these since they are compatible, 14.7 volts, with the Amp Extreme Li-on house battery we rely on while working off road to run the welder, start the Gen. set, etc.

My 2000 suzuki oem battery, whatever it was, lasted 10yrs. It was still original when I traded in for 2010 tundra. Battery was starting to bulge, but was still starting fine and not leaking much.

OEM battery from tundra lasted 7yrs, after that duracell 27f lasted 6 yrs. Leaked a lot lately. Replaced about month ago.

OEM battery in Camry I had died suddenly within 3 yrs. Good thing it happened at home on Sunday morning.

I'm here in Tampa FL, just had my 30k inspection at the dealership on my 2020 SR5 CrewCab. They say my Cranking Amps should be 710, but its reading at 587. Want to sell me a replacement battery for $199 + $50 "lifetime warranty". I passed on the replacement for the moment, wanting to do some research as the dealer tends to upsell me often. Local Battery shop says its reading over 580 "Battery is good" is what I'm told over and over. My companion says I'm throwing money away replacing a perfectly good battery. My research is telling me the 8cyl Tundra requires higher CCA. I know we live in a warm climate, and the constant high temps don't do the battery any favors, and my gut is telling me I may not have an issue now, but when the temperatures drop into the 30s and 40s this winter I'll most likely start having issues. I really don't want to be camping and find myself in BFE with a truck that won't start. Am I wrong? should I be concerned with Cold Cranking Amps of 587?
