In you opinion, what is the best year that the tundra was made?
In my opinion it's the 2018 ,true that's the year of my tundra but I believe the 2018 is the best year, after that, that's when they put in push button start ( I don't like that I like the key) and the truck doesn't shut off when you come to a stop plus it still has the 5.7 I force .
    Just my opinion.

Back in 2016 I put my money on ‘08’s being the best, 2018’s weren’t but a twinkle in Aiko Toyoda’s eye at that time. It’s working out pretty well for me so far.

Much like your 2018 is for you. :D

My 2021 starts with a key, has a column shifter and has the 5.7.
Except for a few doodads and irrelevant body and interior styling changes, it's the same truck from 2007-2021.
That said, I think the seats were more comfy in the 07-13 version, I liked the rear seat design of the 07-13 Crewmax better, I like the body styling of the 14-21 better and I like the addition of little things as standard on base models, like DRLs, nicer radio, trailer brake controller etc. Not sure what year those became standard.
So, if I could have my 21 with seats from a 2nd gen, it'd be a perfect truck.

No experience with any other year but I gotta say I love my 2007. Even with 223,000+ on it it rides better and is more dependable than any other vehicle I have ever owned.

I don't think you can go wrong with any year. I went looking for a '17 in 2019.

3 must haves for me were the 38 gal tank, transmission cooler and no TSS. 56k miles on my truck now, couldn't be happier!

My 245k mile model 2013 is still waiting for its first applicable NHTSA recall (I did get one in the mail last year but it was for replacement parts, which don't happen too often to this truck!)

21 has a key start? Wow I didn't know that ,but I bet you have it where the motor shuts when stopped for a
    Light,
    What does TSS mean?
So what I'm getting all of us tundra owners are very happy with our years so that tells me a lot.
Haven't heard about 22 owners yet.

Nope. No auto shut off/start. Just a regular 'ol truck.
All that push button/auto stuff was probably on certain trim and/or part of a package.

Regardless of the year or mileage, the Tundra with the least amount of rust underneath is the "best year".

Tundra still had the transmission cooler, and received the 38-gallon tank in 2017 I think...? (Both are valued on a Tundra!)

My 2021 Tundra has key start, engine doesn’t die at stop. The 2021 Tundra CarPlay, backup camera, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, pre-collision monitoring, auto high beams, laser cruise etc are a plus to have, use them when you want. I tow so a larger than older Toyota trans cooler made sense though it added money to the purchase.

As far as liking what you drive, my 2008 Sequoia with over a quarter million miles rides better, has a stiffer frame, shorter turning radius, better 4wldr and feels solid compared to the newer Tundra. Same engine and tranny in both. If the Sequoia had the Tundra’s upgrades listed above it would be my favorite but frankly the newer Tundra features make it easier and safer for my driving.

edit: 38 gallon tank on Tundra is a plus.

But that's like saying the one with the least miles is best, I'm fairly certain that if I lived in a state that gets proper winters and salted roads then I too would own a can of PB Blaster for loosening nuts.

I drive a 2021, but I’d personally go for a 2017 for a little more simplicity on the safety side of things.

The best tundra ever is the tundra that doesn’t vibrate and make that annoying as hell sound in the dashboard. If you have one of those, one of those that don’t make you want to trade it in for something else just because of that stupid rattle that drives me crazy, then you, my friend, have the best tundra ever.

I like the dash and extra cup holders in my 2012 the best. Best feature ever. More cup holders and storage places. That’s gotta be the win.

Whichever one the seller is listing it feels to me like.

2018 has its positives powertrain wise - but thinking a few minor interior comforts got added standard in 2020. It’s all about what’s more important to you - a trans cooler or technology interface to your radio (yes - it’s cheaper to swap a radio than add trans cooler).

I personally think too much emphasis is placed on year - just focus on the gen that works for you best as a base and then customize to suit YOUR needs. Similar to trim levels - everyone seems to think they need more than what they really do. We are conditioned to never accept “base” in US car sales and made to believe that adding on things that are important to us as aftermarket is “inferior” to a “factory installed item”. The elder I get - the more I understand that I’m happier owning older less tech reliant vehicles that I can customize myself to MY taste. Of course wife is the exact opposite - f they came out tomorrow with a ultra premium platinum plus plus trim level of her SUV with some meaningless add on like a 2nd monitor for rear seat passengers to allow them to watch 2 shows simultaneously- she’d be saying she needs to upgrade (never mind no one EVER sits in the rear of our vehicles aside from our dog’s occasionally).

I drive a 2016, No complaints, but had a 2008 which felt more responsive IMO may be due to the mated 5 speed (?) tranny, now mine has 6 speed & even you turn on the TOW switch for pwr it expects more rpms for gear shift, thats a little annoyment, also the 2018 n later sport models came with rear sway bar for better riding feel which would be a plus.

Just my opinion 21. The last year is always the best. Same thing with my 19 C7 Z06. Last year for the manual. Especially my Z the value is crazy on it. A lot of people would agree think the last year is the best to buy.

    Too many, but not enough....
I hate to admit it, but the TSS has been pretty helpful in those situations where I have to turn for a second and yell at the kids. Its a nice feature if you have things or people that might divert your attention. I set it at the highest sensitivity and it really buys you more time. Now, if it applied the brakes on its own i would definitely say avoid it.

'13. Started reducing standard equipment after that, making them options instead due to cost cutting. Only thing bad about '13 and older was the lack of support for any nav updates. After '13, the mantra was fewer luxuries, more nannies. More nannies not Toyota's fault, just mandates by a nanny gov't.

The funny thing about the 2018 tundra is the things that people don't like, like the very basic options, smaller screen, heated seats, heated steering wheel and all the other stuff people complain about like the key start not the button start , that's what I love about the Tundra. To me the less is better. All I really need is power steering, power brakes and power windows you can keep all the other stuff, give me back my am fm cassette player and CD player like in the solara 2003. I don't need all the other stuff
I drive it I don't want it to drive me. And of course a powerful V8 if you buy a pick up truck your not buying it for fuel economy. Just my personal opinion

Do all the tundras have 38 gallon fuel tanks? Mine doesn't. It has a 21 gallon tank
