I bought this Platinum, and I love it, but it came with these dealer-installed TRD wheels. I have the originals and I am considering swapping them out. I can't decide what I like better but these TRDs are a PAIN to keep clean.

So which looks better? Blacked out TRDs or original?

Its not the rims, the tires are killing it.

But I like the OE ones.

Agreed, I hate them too. Perhaps I'll make a package deal when I sell the decided rims. So far, she's been a pavement princess and I want to change that with some upgrades. Just wanna make sure I make the right choice on which wheels to keep.

Anyone else? Guys, I need your opinion. Forget the crappy tires... I need to know which wheels to keep and which ones to sell. Thanks so much for your advice.

FWIW I’d keep the OEM rims. Personally I like lighter colored wheels on dark vehicles, and darker wheels on lighter colored vehicles, but that’s just me.

    are they 18’s or 20’s?

They're 20s. And I'm beginning to think the same. Thanks so much!

Only my .02 but I agree with the consensus; the dark grey snowflakes would look better in your situation. Love that blueprint color btw, it really is nice in person. Sweet truck!

I think I will purchase some winter tires and put them on the OEMs. That way, I'll be able to drive it around for a season and see which ones I like the best. But I have a feeling I'll be selling the TRDs in the spring. Now does anyone have suggestions about some good winter tires?:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I’ve tried many brands. Studded, studless, snow and ice, and performance types.

I always come back to nokian. Pricey (due to kal tire having exclusive) but I’ve been very impressed with nokian winters. Nokian all weathers are great too.

my second choice would be blizzak with the following caveat *** what makes blizzaks awesome are only in 55% or in the tread. Once a blizzak is,about half worn it’s “meh’” as a winter tire.

I’m in Winnipeg so we get a mix of all kinds of winter conditions. Plus our winter road maintenance isn’t great, and is getting worse each year.

if you go studded understand you will have less traction on bare pavement, wet and dry. Drive accordingly.

My vote is slightly bigger tire on the OEMs and sell the TRDs. Nice looking truck either way

I have a trd sport. . And want the 20" trd offroad wheels. . But I have a white truck. On the blueprint, I'm with everyone else. . Those platinum wheels will look good!

After some advice here, I'm looking at several options for 275/60s from a very reputable local dealer: (prices in CAD, includes installation)

    BF Goodrich AT TA02 - $409 (8 ply)
Toyo Open Country AT - $345
    Falken Wildpeak AT - $329
    Nokian Outpost AT - $381

My Toyota dealer quoted some K02 tires for $509 each plus installation. My dealer told me to NOT increase the tire size not only because of the need to recalibrate but also because of the chance of a blow out requiring putting on the spare 265/60 and causing problems if in 4wd. Yeah I told them that was a ridiculous claim too.

Advice guys? Thank you so very much.

I appreciate your reply so much. Thank you. I've considered it in my ask, about brand choice.

I put falken wildpeaks on my truck, only have about 5k on them but they seem to be a good tire so far. Time will tell how they handle this winter. Mine are 285/75r18 so not necessarily apples to apples.
I know some guys are diehard BF, but I feel like every time someone with a set drives by they are noisey AF.

So I've learned so much from everyone posting here, I thank you all!

My tire guy suggested that I go no bigger than 275s on the OEMs but I see, Dgravee, that you've got 285's. I have no lift on my Platinum but I would like to get the biggest tire that I can get. Do you experience any rub on your 285s?

When I consulted my guy at Toyota, he frowned, even at my choice of 275's because my spare is a 265 and he said I'd be screwed if I ever needed to put the spare on and use 4WD at the same time. Any truth to this?

I saw the master list, here in this forum and it too says that 275s are the max I can to on Gen 3 without lift.

I'd love to hear if any of you agree that 275s are my limit on my truck because I hope to purchase soon.

    Thanks so much!
