hey i bought a 01 tundra access cab.
i am looking for a used cap..not spending that kinda of money on a truck that cost as much as a new cap.
So the question is which caps from which trucks fit or come close..
as long as i can attach it ill be happy.
    thanks

The 1st gen Tundras were really pretty much in a size range of their own.
I imagine that you will need to find a top made for one to get a decent fit honestly.

That said if you take measurements and shop around you might find something else?

1st gen Tundra and T100s are the only models that will fit well.

I hear the DC caps fit the AC also. Fit, not perfect, but fit. Maybe someone else can chime in. Also the F150 caps of similar years are likely to be very close as well. This is essentially the Japanese F150 clone. Some measurements and a trip to a place that sells caps would probably help shake out which will be close. Good luck hunting and let us know what you come up with. Been looking for a cap as well.

I have an 01 and a 15 both regular cab longbeds.
I thought about sticking the top from the 01 onto the 15 as they both can carry a 4x8 sheet in them so I figured they might be pretty similar as might any or every other regular cab 8' bed truck?

Turns out that might have actually worked except that the shell has french doors on the back and the bed depth difference is almost a foot between the 2 trucks!

So you might well be able to fit another trucks shell onto your truck but you will need to shop armed with the measurements of the bed that you already have and try to get close to that.

Good luck getting anyone selling to help by providing reliable measurements too!

So I don't think it will be too difficult but it will require some work too.

I mean the depth from the rails to the bed more like 17" on yours but 25 on the 3rd gen trucks.
Only an issue for the french doors in back for me.

6 1/2 is what I would consider the Length not the Depth.

i know what you meant, my response just came out wonky.. i noticed it was more shallow compared to my f150 and sierra. what i was refering to was the odd box dimensions compared to other pickups..there is nothing remotely close to the dimensions of my tundra. everything is within 3inches to long or short and between 3 and 6 inches to short or wide on the width.

That is my experience too which is why I keep suggesting you keep the measurements handy and measure everything you can!

There are also used ones out there that if you try hard enough can be turned up for sure.

ya it seems like comparing charts online is not going to help.. going to have to go actually try some on and see how they fit.

t100 and 1st gen are the only ones that'll fit where they wont leak.. anything else might "fit" but not quite right. Theyre out there, check craigslist, facebook marketplace, junkyards...

my cap was less than 200 bucks from a junkyard. theyre out there

Online searching is not very helpful it seems. But the general idea is that every other full size truck that's close is gonna be 2-3" wider and or longer. Actually having one to try may reveal that the way it sits is doable since there's some play with the width of the bedrails and doesn't look to bad, or its all gaps and overhangs. The search continues...
