    Has anyone been to Stockholm?

Tomorrow I depart for a 10 day trip to Sweden. My company is pretty loose on the budget with international travel so I sprung for a pretty nice hotel near Old Town / Gamla Stan. I'm right near the palace and about 500 museums in the center of Stockholm.

I plan a trip to the Vasa Museum on Wednesday night and the Royal Armory o Thursday. Otherwise I'm just planning on exploring after my responsibilities in the day time are taken care of.. Next weekend is booked with visits to my Swedish colleagues' homes and dinners.

I wonder if there are any Tundras in Stockholm...

Has anyone been and have any things that I just have to do while I'm there? I am going to be unable to be a tourist between about 7am and 3pm local time, but outside of those hours I'm completely open!

Haha, I had to look it up! I'm no longer a tobacco user or I'd give it a shot. Maybe I should bring some back and trade you for some syrup.. ;)

I've never been but I'd love to go someday. My great great grandfather emigrated from Gotland (island off SE coast of Sweden) way back when, so I've always wanted to go see where my ancestors are from!

Sounds like it'll be an awesome trip—have fun!

So Amsterdam is pretty alright.. my flight out of SLC was delayed which resulted in an 8 hour layover here. Very cool city, must come back. This is the kind of city you could just walk through for a few days..

I'm in the Sky Lounge waiting for my flight to Stockholm now.. I've been up for about 27 hours. I am absolutely ready to pass out.

I'm pretty close to following suit. Trying to entertain myself so I don't pass out.

I thought Amsterdam was gross, super crowded with posers. I instead went to Den Holder, a smaller coastal town that is home to the Dutch Navy and N Sea Fleet. Incredible World War history since Napolean.

If you really wanna see Europe, go to places and towns with less than 200k people, ideally about 30-80k.

I did Europe rail two years ago on a 10 day pass and just kept winging it the whole way after visiting a cousin in Ghent Belgium. I'm from Sweden, but have lived in the USA nearly my entire life. Used to visit Sweden frequently.

Been to Stockholm four times for bidness, one week each time. Don't forget to check out the castles, several in the area. Gamla Stan is great, good restaurants and cobble stone streets. I stayed mostly in Frosundavik which is just north of Stockholm at the Radisson hotel in Royal Park.

Food is outstanding, people very nice, great stores for shopping, very clean city. I absolutely loved it there.

I have found the same. Food is excellent and fresh everywhere you go. People are very friendly and everyone knows English. It's kind of chilly. I'm staying in Stockholm and it's a great city to explore on foot... I'm just 10 minutes by foot to the Royal Palace.

Went to Nom in Vasteras last night - amazing smaller town that is also full of cobblestone streets and amazing lights year round.. It's a cellar that is a few hundred years old that used to be used to dry meats. Now they serve amazing meats. :D

    20180307_190444.jpg 20180307_192945.jpg

I've had late nights and haven't had as much opportunity as I had hoped to get out and explore, but tonight I'm leaving at EOD and plan on walking around Gamla Stat some more.

Yes, beer is excellent! Forgot about Nom, we ate there as well. I'm trying to find my pictures but I think all were on film (last trip there was in 2002 I think). During the month of December, many (if not all) switch their menus to "julbord" where traditional, seasonal foods are offered buffet style. This is when the special sausages, elk, reindeer, venison and specialty fish dishes appear. Unbelievable, worth a trip over there during December just to dive into the feast.

    Enjoy yourself! I'm jealous!

Got 174000 Sky Miles and $100 cash because my flight was delayed 26 hours. The miles alone are enough for a repeat trip to Europe. =D

Sitting at the airport for 1/3 of a day and then going away empty handed sucked, but this makes up for it. This is the kind of service that keeps me coming back to an airline. Good job Delta. =]
