So, 2017 Limited Sequoia 96k miles. Impact of approximately 45mph. All airbags deployed. Appears to have bent passenger frame a little, fubared my RCI skidplate.

Vehicle pulled out in front of Sequoia and struck a Camry broadside.

Spouse is ok, bruised and a little sore but doing well.

Man, what is with the white vehicles getting smashed this month?

I'm glad your spouse is ok, but I hope a hospital check up was still done. An impact that deploys all the airbags could have caused some hidden injuries. I just wouldn't sign off on any insurance for medical until you're certain.

As for the Sequoia, it's hard to say from those pics. With full airbag deployment the cost is going to be high, and if your suspicion of a bent from up front is true... I'd be pushing for totaled.

Thanks all. Yeah spouse is still doing good little more sore but not too bad. Was impressed with how the Sequoia held up, especially with all the wrecks I've covered the past 16 years.

Other driver was not real lucky, hit head on passenger A pillar,no seatbelt. Also revoked DL and no insurance.

Most insurance companies are totaling anything at about 50% I was recently told. We have a car in the shop right now at almost 50% in damage to value, and it will most likely be a total. Parts are taking for ever to arrive and they are up about 30 to 40% in price, we were told about 2 to 3 month wait IF they decide to fix it. It was only a bumper and grill crushed at about 20 miles per hour but they found the rear subframe was bent a little and the trunk latch area was pushed in.

    I would say that's a total.

Sucks to see and hear. At that mileage and apparent damage leaning hard total loss.

No they won't, it's totally an economic decision.

Unfortunately with the value of the used vehicle market being thru the roof right now, my guess is it's a repairable vehicle. Right now we are fixing vehicles that would have totaled a year ago due to the higher then normal resale value. Parts may take awhile, if you have rental coverage, hopefully it will cover you till the repair is done. If your using your UMPD policy, that will normally cover a rental till your vehicle is repaired.

Hard to guess total repair cost, my guess 12-15k, depending on labor rates and what not. SRS system will be 7-8k of that, depending on what bags popped.

A good reputable repair center will consider that a very easy repair.

This is not a total loss, 32k in repairs, been here just about 100 days, waited almost 45 days for the frame to arrive from Ford:

Hoping they total it, value its probably worth 27k.

All airbags but 1 went off and it appeared the passenger front frame was bent downward just a little bit.

It did run but the hood was too mangled to open to check on how radiator and everything else looked. Also appeared the passenger door was tweaked as it would not open all the way.

If you are pushing for total you should tell the insurance that if they don't total it you want to pursue a diminished value claim as well, if allowed in your state. That added cost might be enough to tip it to the total point.

Glad your wife's ok. My wife was in an accident Monday b4 Thanksgiving, and her car (2016 Subaru Legacy) may be totaled. I still haven't heard from the insurance company. She's shaken but ok - probably a little PTSD. The other driver must have been having a heart attack, because he crossed into her lane. She swerved into left lane to avoid head-on, but his car hit her passenger side & airbags deployed. When police arrived, the other guy had no pulse, but CPR administered and he was taken to hospital. A week later he still hadn't regained consciousness. Could have been much worse for us.

The Legacy transmissions are troublesome, so I wouldn't want the car even if it was repaired. Ironically we had just made the last car payment that week.

Given the supply shortages, I took my wife car shopping Wednesday b4 Thanksgiving. She drove a Camry AWD, but didn't feel safe in it, so Yada Yada... put a deposit on a Highlander XLE V6 non-hybrid... s/b here by Christmas. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Depends largely on location as well. State valuations that determine total loss are all over the place. Some states are as low as 65% of the value of the vehicle as it is marketable with a salvaged title. Some, like where I live, use the total loss formula, cost of repairs plus scrap value. If those combined are more than a fair market value it will be totaled. Mine was 35k+ in repairs, with a scrap value high enough to total it. It was a Pro and they valued its final pay out work at ~58k.

Having said that, OPs truck may very well not be totaled. The damage appears largely cosmetic, and given they will attempt to use used parts or salvaged functional parts, yeah the cost wont necessarily be high. Your estimate might be close, I largely agree on the economic factor as well.

I can see that the front body mount is angled, so either the mount/front clip is bent, the frame is, or both. Frame quote on mine was 8k or 10k if I remember correctly.

If rental doesnt last long enough, if the OP is determined not at fault they can go after loss of use though.

There are exceptions but usually when there’s frame damage they total it.

Thanks again all. We will be checking in on diminished value.

Best local body shop is busy till first week of January. Still waiting on State Farm for a rental till we figure how bad it is.

Wife will not bear any fault. Especially between the witnesses and results from the state patrol. Along with the other driver having a revoked license.

It’s always hard to tell the damage from a couple pictures. Not worth my time to even comment on it without having any experience in collision repair.

Sorry it happened and in reality the only thing that matters is your queen walked away from this unfortunate accident.

Well got the estimate today. Parts, labor. Totaled 32k. This is from a preferred shop thru the insurance company.

They did find frame damage and figured 3500 bucks to address that. Right at 8 grand for air bag replacement along with headliner and miscellaneous parts.

Looks like our tree house is toast. Sucks but feel pretty fortunate that the wife was driving it and how well the vehicle handled the impact.

So now she's looking at 4 runners since we don't probably need sequoia space quite as often, that and Seqoia prices are a bit nuts. Local 2022 Trd sport is 58k. Wilderness package 4runner 45k.

Appreciate all the well wishes, means a lot even if we don't know each other personally.
