Why is the Underdog Racing fuel pump kit so good?

Or, why are people saying this?

I ordered one based on recommendations on this forum.

    The kit comes with:
the pump of your choice and associated install kit
5/16 100 PSI submersible fuel line
    3/8 fuel line, with loom
    4 hose clamps
    external fuel filter
a steel clamp for holding the pump to the basket,
    4 zip ties
    instructions

It is definitely NOT fitted to the Tundra, even though their site lists confirmed fitment for the 07+ Tundra.

The instructions are for a Tacoma, and someone just crossed out Tacoma on the front page. I'm maybe 5 minutes from their store, but their Web site lists no phone number, no address, and no contact information. Question entered into their Web form goes unanswered.

The high pressure hose is way too short. It's only 7-1/8" exact. The instructions says that the hose should be 8". Even the Tacoma folks are saying you need at least 10".

7-1/8" isn't even enough from the lid to the top of the fuel basket. You can see that the hose is not even long enough to go through the opening into the fuel basket. It's definitely at least 3-4" too short.

The stock pump housing and donut filter are there for reference.

The hose clamps from the kit look like generic radiator hose clamps. I don't know if I would trust them in fuel-submersible applications.

After scouring the Tacoma site, I ordered a 260mm (10-1/4") corrugated submersible hose. I hate being down this long.

Mine worked out fine even though they weren't for flex fuel trucks. I had plenty of fuel line :notsure:

Over 40k miles and going strong

Thanks for your reply. I actually referenced your post and pictures a lot when researching the kit.

Unfortunately on the nonflex trucks, it's not possible to reuse the stock pump holder because the top of the pump is compression fitted into the donut filter, and if I enlarged that part of the donut to run the pump straight to the lid, then there's nothing holding the pump from rising to the top of the tank.

Maybe they cut the line on my kit short for some reason.

The pump itself and everything else seems fine, but I'm going to have to source a different line for the pump.

Ahh I see what you're saying. Definitely bypass the donut filter since you'll have an external filter. I had to cut a couple of holes in the pump assembly to run the strap through it to hold the pump.
