Doing a complete undercoat tomorrow with Amsoil HD Metal Protector while my truck is brand new, and the weather is still great. :) I did some research and couldn't get a definitive answer about if this product will damage rubber, some say yes, and others say no. Thought i would ask if anyone here has experience using this, and if you bothered masking off the rubber. As usual, thanks.

Did mine last year John with the same stuff. I plan on doing it again in the next couple of weeks. No issues here.

I plan on doing it every 2 years. I'm just going to do it again this year. I will check each summer just to see if I need to do it again. New York uses a lot of salt.

I have heard great things about this stuff. By the time I learned about it, I was heavily invested in fluid film (spray gun and a few gallons).
How's does it hold up? Ever use fluid film that you could compare?
Does it stay wet and oily or does it dry? Do you do aerosol cans, that's all I have seen but maybe it come in larger containers? All I have read is good stuff, kinda wish I had known about this stuff a couple years ago but I am very happy with my fluid film thus far.

For what it's worth I have had zero issues with fluid film on rubber, some say it can cause it to swell but I never noticed that.

Will do a followup of how the undercoat works out (if anyone is interested):tumbleweed: My last truck, a GMC Sierra was definitely the worst truck I've ever owned as far as rust is concerned. It only had 135,000 miles on it and ran pretty good, but rusted underneath to the point it was unsafe to drive. Lets just say I've seen the light and after only a Month of Tundra ownership, will never look back.:proposetoast:

Pudge, it comes in 15oz. Aerosol cans, and supposedly dries completely with a slight amber color. I bought 3, will see if its enough.

    Thank you sir

When I used aerosol cans of fluid film I would use 6+ cans, I think they were 10 or 12 oz. I also lay it on thick so it can "creep" into every little area that may rust.

Got the undercoat on the truck done today, it took about 4 hours in the driveway but i bet you could do it in half that time on a lift. My first impression of the Amsoil is pretty positive, it sprays on very wet to spread into all the nook and crannies, but dries in only a few hours to a tack free film. The 3 cans i bought was just enough to do everything other than coating the underside of the bed, which i wanted to do. Next time I'll follow Jim's advice above, and get 4 cans. All in all not a bad job to do, and if it works as good as its supposed to, it will be the best $50.00 i ever spent. :cheers:IMG_0466.jpg IMG_0468.jpg

I love the Amsoil HDMP, I did my truck as soon as I got it home brand new and will do it again this November before the snow and salt start.

Wow that looks great! I like the idea of it drying, fluid film is so greasy. I think I am going to break down and go to harbor freight and spend $45 on some steel ramps. They would help make this spray process much faster. I can't wait to hear how this stuff works out, cuz it looks very promising and if Jim says its good....its good.

That's a great video review. Next year maybe I will try using the Amsoil or CRC on the frame near the wheel wells and areas where there is a lot of road spray, they spray fluid film over it and everywhere else. One downside to the FF that I have seen is it can get washed off from road spray, I haven't had it completely wash off to the point the area rusts, but it could be possible I suppose. The Amsoil looks like a much better product in that aspect.
